My point about the Cavs committing too many turnovers by either driving into a crowded paint or trying to make tough interior passes was echoed by Bickerstaff.
Bickerstaff said that the Knicks overcommit in the paint, and when the Cavs try to play in small spaces, New York can make them play in a crowd and create those turnovers. He also said the Cavs didn’t make enough of their “one mores” — one of their core values — to open teammates on the back side. - Kelsey Russo
The way to burn a team that overcommits in the paint is to play the inside-outside game where they penetrate to collapse the defense then kick it out for an open 3. The problem comes when you can't make the open 3's.
And this from Donovan Mitchell:
“I think we came out a little too hype. I think it was one of those things we were just playing fast, trying to do so much, try to do it all in one play. You’ll take that aggression. At the end of the day, we can calm that down, as opposed to coming out timid; I think that’s the biggest thing. So we’ll fix that.”
Finally...
LeVert said they have to stay confident and not overreact too much to Friday’s game.
“Just stay confident; keep shooting them,” LeVert said. “We know the type of defense that they play allows a lot of wing and corner 3s. Just got to be ready to shoot them.”
I agree. You can't beat the Knicks without hitting 3's and forcing them to defend the perimeter.
