Gordon suspension reduced to 10, 12 if convicted of DWI

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So how long until the NFL lightens the penalty for smoking weed but doesn't retroactively apply the shortened penalty to guys currently suspended? One month? Two? We all know it's going to happen.
\\

We do? I'd be shocked as hell. Why would they give up something like that unilaterally without getting something back from the union in return during negotiations?

I have to agree with people on here, it is Josh Gordons fault, but the extend of the punishment is way over the top IMO. There is no questioning that he is an Idiot, bit when you really stand back you see how sad this outcome really is.

We dont have competent QB play. We dont have competent WR play. And we dont have competent DB play outside of Haden.

Team is trash

Seems like a huge overreaction to games that don't matter and emotions right now.

Hoyer was competent last year, lets see how he does in season before we call him a bum. Competent WR play could be had by Austin and Burelson if healthy. And we have more than competent DB play, I'd expect that's a drastic overreaction to the last preseason game where neither Haden, Skrine, Trufant or Desir played.

Why the heck did it take this long for the NFL to decide? He can't even attend training camp next year as well, and he won't be able to go to the facility during the suspension.
Actually the league has said he can apply for reinstatement before the start of training camp next year. So that's good news, I guess?

Not sure why people are freaking out about subpar DB play outside of Haden, haven't see a ton of evidence of that.

Gilbert looks like he's getting better and better. Whitner will be a nice addition as well.

Obviously getting amped up and emotional is some posters style, but I think this defense will be quite capable. They'll need to establish a running attack and control the ball to win.

Okay. I've calmed down now.

But the team still isn't doing better than 6-10.

No Gordon means 8 in the box. Browns are screwed.

That's fine, 6-10 with the margin of error is a potential 7-9 season.

If the defense can carry them to that, with two top picks heading into next season, that's some good momentum.

The biggest lingering issue with this team will be QB going forward, that much is clear.

I think that is still pessimistic. When I look at the Browns schedule, the only team I don't think we can beat is NO because we will struggle to score this year

Everyone else isn't a world beater. If you ranked the top 10 teams in the NFL this season, I think we only play Caronlina and Cinci out of that upper 3rd. All the other teams aren't that great IMO.

If we win 1 out of those 4 games (NO, CAR, CIN), we go 7-9 if we're .500 against everyone else.

I think the division will be down this season, which should help us pick up an extra win or two.

So Browns are going to have two top 5 draft picks next year and I still believe we fire Petitine before season's end.

To those saying this is Josh Gordon's fault... ultimately yes, it is, for putting himself and the team in this position. BUT... two things make this year long suspension the joke that it is and I think majority would agree that 1) the punishment doesnt fit the crime (especially compared to the Ray Rice situation), and 2) dragging the decision out for close to 4 months after it was announced is just wrong for the team and the player, as well as a bad look on the league. What do they care though about public perception? They're still going to make money hand over fist.

It's not all black and white... it's not all Gordon's fault or all of the league's fault. Those two factors mentioned above are what turned this into the controversial subject it is today now that the news is official.

The one thing that irks me about the Rice comparison is that this is NOT Gordon's first time getting in trouble for weed.

The comparison does not really apply, but I do understand the hypocrisy of the NFL for not suspending Rice further despite it being his first offense.

Well, to be fair, the punishment does fit the crime, as the NFL has a list of rules and regulations regarding drug suspensions. Are the rules stupid? Yes, of course, especially for something like weed that is mostly harmless and obviously not a performance enhancer (unless they count enhancing late night runs to Taco Bell).

The league looks bad, then, because of how they punish violent offenders like Ray Rice. There are no rules in place regarding those suspensions, so the NFL just does whatever they want. It makes them look stupid as a result when they suspend Rice for two games and follow it up a few weeks later by suspending Gordon for a full year. They're just following the letter of the law in the latter case, but their "slap on the wrist" punishment in the former makes them look moronic by comparison.
