Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I like this trade a lot. Gets us a 1st rd pick from a team that will probably not be very good. I am just glad the headache of Hickson is finally gone. Betta get my Donuts

You do realize we will probably never see that first round pick.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

This deal is basically Hickson for Casspi + 2017 1st and 2nd, because the Kings will be terrible until then and that's when the lottery protection expires.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Because we could have gotten more than nothing for him?
Omri Casspi is already the best SF on our team now so he'll be a starter from day 1, and the Kings will eventually get out of the top 10.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

The draft pick and Casspi are icing. The cake is not having JJ on the roster.

"My Name is LukeWitte, and I wanted to get rid of JJ too."

I just didn't have the stones to post it like you did. Thanks.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Solid trade. Not great but solid. Cavs were not going to get an unprotected lottery pick for JJ Hickson. No way that was going to happen. Let's not pretend every team in the league doesn't see the same issues with Hickson that we all see. We were hopeful for more of a return for him but this is a very realistic reasonable return.
After what happened with the #1 in the Baron Davis trade, teams aren't just going to casually give up unprotected #1's. Especially those in the Kings situation.
Cavs probably won't see 1st rounder until at least 2014.

Casspi should start and is a pretty solid all around player. Can be inconsistent though but some of that might be due to the situation with the Kings and the inconsistent minutes and rotation they had.

This trade does fit into the continued building process. Casspi is only a month and a half older than Hickson and Cavs get what should be a late lottery or mid 1st round pick where good talent can be found.
Cavs are going to have to find scorers in the next 2 years though.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

No, I'm asked to evaluate the trade and I evaluate it as... bad, on our end. We should have gotten more. What are we to criticize GMs for if not for their skills at acquiring better assets for the team? I already said I'm fine if that was truly the best they could get- fine with them taking it, anyways. NOT fine with what we actually got.

so, you simply assume they could have gotten more, with no actual evidence of such and are therefore mad. but in the same breath, you are fine with the trade if they got the most they could. well, at least you've adequately straddled the fence, leaving you free to bitch about the trade for the foreseeable future, and should it work out for cleveland down the road, nobody will remember your illogical bitching.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I mean it's not a horrible trade, because Hickson sucks, and we got a guy for him that sucks. I bet we could have at least got a draft pick from one of the other teams that wanted him.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

So, if the Cavs starting lineup is
1-Irving
2-Eyenga
3-Casspi
4-Thompson
5-Varejão

All five players were not born in the US. Complete International team. Don't know if that's good.

Amidst all the intelligent posts and issues raised you come up with this. SMFH

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

So how would this be a bad trade for us if Hickson can't help the Kings out of the top 10 worst teams in the league in the next 5 years?
means we traded hickson for this scrub straight-up (w/ a meaningless 2nd rounder, cuz we know how well grant treats those picks)

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

i'm guessing we are undervaluing how much grant and scott like Casspi. ITs been rumored that they've been after him for a while, so i'm guessing that part of the deal wsa just as important as the draft pick, and maybe why they didn't get a great value on the pick - because they also got Casspi. Purely speculating, but that would make sense.
The bottom line is ,if that rumor is true(and I've known GM's to target one player and wait till they get him) then they got a guy they wanted all along..which then made that pick less of a priority.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

It's alright guys. According to my sources, the 2nd round pool of talent in the 2017 draft is LOADED.

On a serious note, I'm okay with the trade. I've already faced the facts and realized that we wont be contending for some time. Cassipi could be a nice role player for us down the line.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Does Casspi have a nickname?

I would like to move for "The Bear Jew".

Do I have a second?

That is an awful nickname.

I was hoping for "The Real Hebrew Hammer"

Omri Casspi is already the best SF on our team now so he'll be a starter from day 1, and the Kings will eventually get out of the top 10.

We don't need (or want) marginal SFs to make us better right now.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

And suddenly every Cavaliers fan became a Jimmer fan. The Kings have so much young talents that hopefully they figure it out of the next couple years and get in the playoffs as a #8 seed, but if a couple of their players bust I doubt we ever see this pick. I do like Omri quite a bit, and glad to see him in a Cavaliers uniform.

Or better yet, they just stay in the lottery until the protection wears off.

We got the #1 pick in this draft with Mo Williams, and we may get lucky again sometime in the future with the pick we got for JJ. No matter what, it's likely to be better than the #19 we spent on JJ, and Caspi was a #23 pick himself.

Time will tell if we really maximized JJ's trade value, but we didn't do badly.

*** correction (3:05pm): We would only get the King's second round pick in 2017 if the protection runs out ***

*** correction (5:10pm): Actually we might be getting the second round pick in 2017 in addition to an unprotected 1st rounder in 2018 - wording in the press release is vague ***

Don't worry, Casspi doesn't really make us that much better.

In fact, I think we probably got worse with this trade. Hickson can score, which is something we seriously lack right now. Casspi can score at times, but not like Hickson can.
