So we come to the round of 16 in the World Championships. USA have cruised through without to many issues outside of the Italy scare. Their foes in the 2nd round........my beloved Aussie Boomers.

This will be embarressing. My Australian team will struggle at the best of times, but without 4 of its best 6 players, will be crushed at about a 2 to 1 scoring ratio. I am cringing for poor old Andrew Bogut who will see Wade, James, Paul, Anthony and co driving at will, with Bosh, Howard and co slamming down any dregs.

Oh well, my team exceeded expectations by getting this far with their current roster. I have the white flag ready. Mercy!

I doubt you'll see any mercy from Team USA. They want the gold, and its nothin personal, the Aussies are just in the way.

But dont give up yet! Other countries have upset the US before. But tough draw for the Aussies. Now we're down to single elimination, the stakes are even higher. If you cant cheer for the US at least cheer for Bron baby!

I'm a little worried about the WCs. Not from the aussies, no offense Karma, but you even admit that's going to be a drubbing. But some of the better teams can beat the US, especially if they have an off game. This team is alot better then the '04 olympic squad, but they still have only been together a few weeks. Defensively they're solid, but have definitely shown some *****s in the armor. Offensively, they're lucky if they can execute a pick and roll. It's mostly 1 on 1 play. If they get cold from the outside against a good team, who's shutting down everything inside with the zone, we're cooked!

This one and done stuff is scary!

Edit: This is funny. The web site sensored this comment, I'm assuming b/c it thinks I'm making a racial comment. I'm sure you can figure it out: "*****s in the armor"

If the US beats the Aussies, then most likely they'll have to face Dirk and Germany, then Greece, then whoever wins the other side of the bracket (Spain, Argentina?) for the gold.

A full strength Aussie team could push this USA team somewhat, as we couldcontinue to throw fresh talented bodies. With our squad being so depleted, we are forced to overplay our main guys and with that comes fatigue, foul trouble and on Sunday, elimination.

You guys should watch CJ Bruton. He is our starting point guard who played a couple of Summer League games for the Cavs. The guy can flat out play!

Finally I get to see the US play but I was hoping it wasnt against Australia.
I agree with you Karma with a full strength side we could push the US.
We are building for the Olympics and should have a good team in 08 led with an more experienced Bogut.

When is this televised and what channel? I'm seeing it on ESPN2 sunday at 10pm EST, but I'm pretty sure the game happens before that. I really don't feel like waiting till tomorrow night if I don't have to. Let me know if you know!

Ok, I've watched every televised game the US has had, including the exhibition ones, and that first quarter was probably the worst one yet. Sloppy, ugly, not even fun to watch. Yet we were up by 3 at the end of it. The second quarter, when we started playing half decent, the score was what, 32 - 6? I think you Aussies need to stick with making wine. You're pretty good at that at least. :chuckles:

On a serious note, Bogut did look pretty good. We can only hope that TJ didn't hear about this one. He'll be unstoppable quoting stats from the game about what the next Wilt Chamberlain did against team USA and how obvious it is that the Bucks will take the central this year.

I'm just curious. When you watched this in Australia, were you watching it on ESPN2 with USA focused commentators like us, or did you have a local feed?

We had our own broadcasters, who probably had their head buried in their hands.
