CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians have traded minor league first baseman Michael Aubrey to the Baltimore Orioles for a player to be named.

Aubrey was a first-round pick (No. 11 overall) in 2003 but was slowed by injuries during his time with Cleveland. He was batting .292 with five homers and 29 RBIs in 57 games with Triple-A Columbus.

The 27-year-old played in 15 games last season for the Indians, batting .200 with two homers.

The Indians also outrighted right-hander Greg Aquino to the Clippers. He was designated for assignment June 19 after going 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 relief appearances.

Watch him become Albert Pujols with the O's

Well they already turned Jeremy Guthrie into an ace pitcher so I don't see why not.

Guthrie is 5-7 with a 5.09 ERA this year.

He did do well the past 2, I'll give you that.

Jeremy Guthrie is an ace now?

Haha...

Uh, he sure is. He's not a Cy Young candidate but he's a number one starter. I'd take him over every starter on our staff except Cliff Lee who won the Cy Young last year.

He's the number 1 starter for the O's by default... they have a terrible starting rotation, much like us. Would I take him over Pavano/Huff/Sowers? Sure, but is that really saying much? :chuckles:

He's not a number one starter on any contending team.

Heck, even Oriole fans think he should be a number 3 or 4.

Okay well I guess our definitions of "ace" pitcher are different. I think if you're the number one starter on a team, you're an ace since most teams don't have good rotations and only the richest have more than one above average pitcher.

Not a Cy Young contender or a future hall of famer by any means, but he's turned into a good player for the Orioles which was my point.

He's decent, nobody is going to argue that. I'd like him in our rotation now, I don't think anyone would argue with that either.

Last year and the year before he was probably our 5th starter though.

An ace in my estimation is a guy who gets 15 wins consistently and racks up 200 innings worth of quality innings.

Guthrie has never had more than 10 wins and has never even gone over 200 innings despite being the #1 on the O's staff for three years.

5.9 K/9 is pretty average, as is his 2.6 BB/9.

His lowest ERA in any season was 3.63

That is just not #1 caliber stuff....

I was under the impression-told by an 0's fan that Guthrie has struggled this year?

Okay we're arguing semantics here because we're on the same page. Being the number one pitcher on a team makes you a top 50 starting pitcher in a 30 team league that is top heavy in talent with the rich teams buying up the best of the best. He'd probably be like a 4th starter on the Yanks or Red Sox but for a team like Baltimore he's an 'ace'. Not a top shelf guy but the one you give the ball to when you want the best chance to win. John Lannan is the ace for the Nationals even though he sucks.

He's the Orioles' 'ace' for what that's worth (not much) but that's much more than what he did here. He was unreliable and couldn't be trusted to give us a chance to win the game. In his last start he went 7 innings giving up 1 run and 3 hits to the Phillies so while he's not the ideal 'ace' he is that guy for the Orioles.

Okay I've done too much explaining my opinion of Jeremy Guthrie, back to Shaq talk.:chuckles:
