I understand camakazee. I started as a fan of both Cavs and Kings back in 01-02 season. Ricky Davis and Webber era for both teams. I just became a fan of both teams due to playing them in NBA Live 2002 randomly. Believe it or not I was a LeBron hater up until his unreal performance at the palace. I was converted to a witness!

I was a big football (soccer) fan before but now it's all basketball for me.

I come to you from Peru.

This is a really cool thread, Karma. It's nice to see not just so many Cavs fans abroad, but NBA fans as a whole. I love basketball, but I think the NBA gets a bad wrap in the U.S. Too many nitwits talking about how there's no defense just because a 2-3 zone isn't trapping a 6'9" stiff, forcing him to travel. I just feel the NBA isn't fully appreciated here in the U.S. and it shows with television ratings and attendance numbers. [/rant]

Anyways, thanks for the cool look at international Cavs fans. Reminds me of when the only streams I could get a few years ago were usually Chinese streams, and reading a bunch of Chinese characters with "LeBron" sandwiched in the middle :chuckles:

That's another interesting question I had. How many of you international fans were Cavs fans before LeBron? I'm not calling any of you out on your Cavs fandem, but I understand how many international fans LBJ brought to the game with his global image. I was simply curious as to how many fans on this forum were brought in by that, or if the Cavs legitimately reached a decent amount of international fans pre-LeBron.

I got into basketball (in Kuwait) during one of the CAVS/BULLS playoff games. There was nothing else to watch and I decided to give the game a chance. I though Jordan was amazing but I loved watching the CAVS play and continued to watch basketball and support the CAVS through the lows and the highs.

I became a fan of basketball after picking up a copy of NBA Live 06 on PS2. I never had really got into basketball, as it isnt that big over here, like you'd play it at school, but not follow it to the extent i do now. Now it has become bigger then what it was, mostly everyone know's LeBron, Kobe, Shaq, all the big names but not following it. Aussie Rules and cricket are bigger than basketball, or Rugby in some parts.

I chose the cavs on PS2 because Lebron was a beast, so if he was playing on the knicks or T'Wolves i probably would have chosen them. I dont believe, to an international audience it doesnt matter where the big stars play, they are big stars because they can play. Not many people would know of David Lee, or Chris Duhon because they play in a big market, they are not known because theyre team sucks. So a big market wont bring the world to them. The world will find them if theyre good enough.

So i probably wouldnt be a cavs fan if it werent for Lebron, but since joining up here you know this team is more than just LeBron, its Z with his midrange, Boobie with his 3's, Big Ben with his defense, Wally with his butt slaps, Sasha with his .................

So thats me.

I love cricket. Haha. 1998 to me was cricket(fav team India damn aussies kicked our asses every time), basketball(obv), wrestling and soccer (France cuz of Henry) all rolled up in one. That was all I did (I only watched wrestling and did stupid things). Great year.

I was a Bulls fan in the 90's. The first basketball game I've ever watched was 91 Finals, Game 2. I was a huge fan of Jordan and to me the Cavs were the least interesting team at that time. Especially the team under Mike Fratello. After Jordan's retirement I stopped being a fan of any team. In 2001 I heard about LeBron, found his videos, watched them and I was amazed. At that time I thought he might be the best talent ever. I told about him to my friends they ignored me! Bron came to league and I found myself rooting for the Cavs. In 2003-04 I missed lots of games because it's hard to follow them from another continent but I watched almost every game since 2004-05.

Right now I've come to a position which I think I can't stop rooting for the Cavs even if LeBron leaves. I thought about it a lot and I'd be really piss if he leaves. I guess that's how you become a fan. Especially if you're an international one. I'm even considering to visit Cleveland for a vacation. This town really got me! and that's it, I might be no real Cavs fan, I'm a die hard Galatasaray fan(a Turkish team)! But I've watched hundreds of Cavs games and I think I've every right to call myself a Cavs fan.

Hey karma remembered me!

I started following the cavs when a friend of mine started at kent state (home of the mighty nate reinking). It was the year that the messiah cam to town and i saw the game when the opposition didn't realise he couldn't dribble left. I think he had 36points or something. Then lebron happened coinciding with the retirement of my past favourite player Larry Johnson. There we go. Any way if i type in hot british babes into google this is what you get

Nice to see this thread :) greetings from the land of basketball - Lithuania. It's interesting how many fans we have from different corners of the world.. As of me, I became a fan of cavs since about 1997-1998, about when the big fellow Z came to the league even though back then i was like 12 years old, had no computer no nothing and just played myself with kids and waited for the evening sports news to see some highlights from the cavs :) i really supported the cavs because of Z, but as years passed became not a man's but a team's fan, so even when Z will be gone, i'll definitely stay with cavs :)

I live in a nation's capital Vilnius:

^^ Another fan from a basketball country! We're proud to have you!

I was in Cleveland during 2007 summer. My sister with her family lives there, but damn the season was over and I had no chance to fulfill one of my dreams - to see a game of my beloved Cavaliers straight from the Q arena.. I plan to come to the town maybe a bit before the summer, when cavs will be in play-offs, would be amazing :)

The Special One is from Crumpetland.
That had me lqtm Acorn. Literally. ;)

Yeah, I'm from the greatest city in the world (aka London).I Became a Cavs fan in a way that only gives me more reason to believe in fate. To cut a very long story short, my big time NBA fan older brother got me a LeBron Cavs jersey from his trip to LA (this is around 2004). I had no clue who this LeBron guy was but I'd always had a nice little interest in basketball. Heck, around 2 weeks later, I see there's some NBA highlights on TV (this is back when they actually showed basketball over here. Now it's NFL galore) and the first thing I see is this guy called LeBron James at the free throw line. Basically, the rest is history. As I got to see the Cavs play more and more often my interest just kept on growing to a point where I knew I'd become a true FAN. You could say it was because of LeBron that I became a Cav fan but trust me, I'm not a LeBron homer who'll support him wherever he goes or whatnot. I fell in love with the team. And I've enjoyed supporting every Cavalier during my time as a fan whether it be Loozer, Scott Pollard, Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden or LeBron. I guess over the past few years I've come to realise that the Cavs mean A LOT to me, especially considering the lack of access to NBA I get over here. Slowly but surely basketball has become probably my favourite sport. I don't know ... The story probably sounds lame but it's easiest way to sum it all up really.

While I'm at it, here are a couple of pics from this year's NBA Europe Live pre-season game (Nets vs. Heat) in London that I was at :

It was an awesome event. The game came down to the final possession and nearly all the starters on both squads got 35+ minutes which was a pleasant surprise considering it was PS. The 02 Arena over here absolutely owned and the cheerleaders rocked too. ;) It was great stuff. I'd LOVE for the Cavs to get picked to come across the pond for next year's game. And I hope Stern lives up to his promise of regular season games in London by the 2010-2011 season. Then we'd have NFL and NBA over here. Sweeeeeeeeet.

LeBron's free-throws made you a fan? Now that is a story. :chuckles:

Lithuania looks quite nice. I can see myself moving to Europe someday their cities always just look amazing to me with their architecture. For now though I am stuck in Ohio.

Melbourne here...I don't really post much since you regulars/"hardcore" posters give me more entertainment in just one simple post than I could ever even dream (not that I'd dream this anyway, sorry guys ) of giving you guys in 10,000 posts, so just being registered and reading threads is fine for me :chuckles:
