I think the trade of Camby basically means the Nuggets are in rebuilding mode...
There's no way they can compete now or withing the next two years, when AI will be at his best...
It seems like the Camby trade as a big slap in the face to AI and Melo, telling them that they couldn't get it done together... (it's true though)
So, do you guys think AI is in play now? I really do, as I don't think it makes sense to hang onto him right now... He'll be expiring and he'll probably won't re-sign in Denver, so I think they'll try to shop him a long with one of their bad contracts and try to get something for him...
I think Cleveland and Denver would be two good teams for a trade...
We have the contracts that can match up with AI and say a Kenyon Martin... Not only that but we have the expiring contracts that their owner is looking for... They're looking to slash the payroll at all costs and if we can take on a bad contract, I think we can get AI for expiring contracts and some decent young talent...
I guess the bottom line would be, would you take AI?
I agree that if the right deal comes along you have to, but I'd pretty much give them anyone beside West, Gibson, LeBron or Ilgauskas... Anyone else is in play and I'd do pretty much any reasonable deal...
Yes he is declining but I think he gives you pretty much everything you would want in a sidekick to LeBron: a lethal scorer, decently efficient, consistent, tough, relatively durable, able of carrying a team and clutch...
He's not an ideal option but I think he's one of the better options out there... His shooting %'s and age worry me the most... He just turned 33 and I have to wonder how much he has left in the tank... He's shown signs of decline but he's still a tremendous player...
I'm not too worried defensively because I think we can hide him, especially with MB as our coach...
As far as position, unless we could fine a big PG, I'd just stick him at PG... He's shown the ability to distribute the ball and I think putting him at the PG spot is doable with this team, as we don't need a true PG...
As far as trade...
I think this might work:
Steven Hunter
Kenyon Martin
Allen Iverson
for
Sasha Pavlovic
Eric Snow
Wally Szczerbiak
Anderson Varejao
Iverson / Gibson / Jones
??? / ??? / Thomas
James / ??? / Hickson
Martin / Smith / Jackson
Ilgauskas / Wallace / Hunter
(I know Hickson is not a SF, I just put him there to see what a the roster would look like, numbers wise)..
We'd definitely need to get a wing player... I think using a guy like Steven Hunter and Damon Jones as trade bait could pull us something...
We could then go out and sign Josh Childress for the full MLE, hopefully they don't match it, and we have our starting SG...
That part is just kind of dreaming, but what do you guys think about AI to the Cavs in general? Would you want him and do you think it's realistic?
