Jhonny Peralta: Your thoughts ?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We should of traded him while his value was still high.

We really could have gotten a few solid prospects for Shoppach and Peralta last season. Now, we are just stuck with them and couldn't get anything for them.

Same goes for Perez and Betancourt.

If only we had you there to take a look into the future and let everyone know they would suck in 2009.

Or if Shapiro could see Peralta has always been extremely inconsistent and Shoppach had one good season and has been a bum otherwise.

Perez is the only one nobody could see coming.

If you couldn't see Shoppach being a bum this season, then you don't know baseball. The guy got lucky as hell last year. Even last year, Shoppach struck out in 38% of his at bats not including walks. This year, he is at 37%. That is higher that Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn.

To compare that to somebody who is known for striking out a lot in Grady.... The past couple seasons Grady has struck out in 20% and 24% of his AB's not including walks.

Shoppach is garbage at the plate. Especially when you already have Victor and Carlos Santana. That makes it even worse that he didn't trade him.

No, Peralta really hasn't been all that inconsistent.

Three of the past four years prior to this season, he's been a consistent threat and THE best offensive SS in the AL.

2005: .292/.886
24 HR/78 RBI

2007: .270/.771
21 HR/72 RBI

2008: .276/.804
25 HR/89 RBI

I'll give you the bad year in 2006, but three years as one of the highest producing SS's in baseball doesn't exactly scream inconsistency.

As for Shoppach, other teams aren't stupid. If you can look up his strikeout rate and 19 percent caught stealing percentage I think they have the technology to do the same....

I agree he's not a very good player and his numbers were transparent last year, but I feel other teams felt the same way. Why would other teams offer up anything when his numbers were inflated and his strikeout rate was obscene?

Other teams aren't stupid enough to just look at home runs and RBI like the casual fan, I'm not sure what you would have been expecting in a trade for him.

I got it from your boy Shapiro saying there were numerous teams interested in Shoppach but he wanted to hold onto him for versatility and because you don't find good backup catchers....

As for Peralta, I was talking about his inconsistency during the season. He is never consistent throughout a season, he is always either red hot or ice cold.

Well....taking the word of the media savvy Mark Shapiro and perpetuating them as gospel probably isn't the smartest move.

But I digress

They should have traded the best offensive SS in the AL, a 20 homer catcher and their two best relievers before a season which the fans felt they were going to compete.

That would have gone a long way to helping them keep their jobs.

Hindsight is 20/20...in your case it might be even better than that.

Peralta has worn out his welcome. He rarely plays hard and I just don't think he cares to be here anymore.

Meanwhile, Andy Marte (Yes that Andy Marte) as of this week in AAA

.329
17 HR
64 RBI

Peralta just had an actual RBI! Unbelievable. I am more shocked at this event then Buerhle tossing a perfect game. :(

I heckled him non-stop at the Indians game last week when we lost to the Mariners. He grounded into a double play and twice showed that he has no range as a fielder, none at all.

It was an entertaining day. I also paid $10 for a single hotdog, a soda, and a bag of peanuts. Beer was 7 dollars a piece times three(I need more than one when watching the tribe).

Coupled with whatever the fiance ordered...60 bucks+tickets+parking to watch this garbage team and that piece of trash Peralta play was NOT worth it.

I guess knowing that Peralta knows how much I think he sucks might be the only silver lining.
