You know what? I think these FO people do see these things but are so determined for something else to work that they take the risk.
The Cavs should have just kept Drew in place and stop the musical chairs. You can't keep trying to put a certain type of coach in place until the young players get more experienced..and that is if they are the team for long.
Get a HC in place and be done with it.
I think there were reports that they tried to keep Larry Drew in place but he decline to stay on another year.
I do think they tried a different approach than most front offices would have. They have said how they thought of Beilein as a teacher and that's what they brought him in for. I didn't think it was a bad bet to make since Gregg Popovich is really the only coach currently in the league that has a track record of being both a good developer of talent and winning a championship.
I think the front office knew that the chance of getting the next Popovich was next to none so they went with someone they thought could be a great developer of talent. My guess is they expected someone else to take over for Beilein once the development of the young players was done and they went into the win phase.
