Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The only way you go back to Hoyer is a scenario where you hope the benching woke him up enough to make him focus better.

The good part about not naming a starter is that the defensive game plan is so different for this team from one guy to the next.

Yeah. I just don't think there's a scenario in which Hoyer is going to drastically improve his field vision and improve his ball placement at this point in his career. Jmo

Start Johnny, let's see what the little tyke can do. I will say this, he has the biggest bullseye on his back in the history of NFL rookies. Everyone wants to be the guy that clocks the cocky QB. I'll be rooting as hard as I can for him and pray he takes us to the postseason and multiple championships. But, I just have no faith in running QBs. My gut says he will get his knee nuked just like I predicted with RG3.

Good luck Johnny Bullseye!!!

We all have seen enough of Hoyer to know what he's all about by now and the returns are not positive. It's time to give Manziel his shot. 2 games at home with Gordon and potentially Cameron gives him the best chance to succeed. Let's see how he does.

I still think Manziel is going to be an awful NFL qb but he's gotta get on the field to prove it.

I was dreading going to the game next Sunday. Now I'm actually looking forward to it.

Said in the press conference he laid down like that not because he got hit hard or anything but he was just so upset and knew nothing good could have come from the play.

Why does he have to be labeled a "running QB" as Maximus did, though. I feel like if we can coach Manziel up to only use his legs a as second instinct, not first, it will work to our advantage. Statue quarterbacks are great if they are Peyton Manning or Tom Brady but there aren't many like that. Even Andrew Luck has some mobility if I'm not mistaken. Use those legs to roll out, move around in the pocket, evade the rush, and get an extra 5 yards when you can.

Don't see how this would be such a dire use of Manziel.

Excellent post and good thoughts the thing though is that in college the running part was instinctive and it just can't be turned off - It needs to be conditioned and can only go away with time.

You may like for Manziel to play that way but early in his career he simply won't. His entire football life he's relied on his athletic ability over his arm to win games. Until that ability is taken away by injury, age or wisdom, his first instinct will be to run around. Hence the running QB statement that I agree with Max on.

For the most part I do agree. No reason to label him without seeing what he will do at this level.

But every player is different and I hope we can coach Manziel to throw first and run second. However, look at the OSU situation. Braxton almost always looked to run and then pass, even after years of coaching (even running out of bounds for a net loss instead of throwing it away). JT on the other hand looks to pass first and then run when he needs it (and throws it away). Some guys are wired differently and coaching can only achieve so much.

If Manziel does learn to go through his progression, move within the pocket and then scramble when he can gouge the defense he will be devastating.

Chances we wee Connor Shaw before the season is over?:anv (13):

I was watching the game in a bar without the game sound (they play the Panthers sound around here, obviously) and could tell he was just pissed that he fucked up by not throwing it away.

Anyway, I thought the main reason we sucked the second drive with Manziel was because we totally abandoned the play action. We ran it almost every play during his first drive and the Bills clearly had no idea how to respond to it. Couple that with a few nice passes and a solid run game and you've got an offense that was tough to stop. I think that, at this point, you've got to turn the offense over to Manziel. Hoyer has been godawful the past few weeks and, despite getting Gordon back, seems to be getting worse rather than better. Might as well see what Manziel can give us. I honestly can't see him being worse than Hoyer has been lately.

You speak as if we were 2-10 and going to the factory of sadness.

Well after this loss I wasn't really looking forward to watching another awful offensive performance while sitting in the cold and paying 3 times market value for food and drinks.

Was at the game today. My first Browns game actually. Honestly, that Manziel drive was the only positive of the second half.

Same reason RG3 is a running QB. They have an amazing talent at running and stretching plays. They can't resist running because they are outstanding at it. Unfortunately in the NFL, the competition is bigger, faster and stronger...so running QBs don't last long.
