There is a difference between telling people what they want to hear and committing oneself to rehab for 60 days.

Actions speak louder than words. If anything going to rehab removes any excuses. If he does well then his first step of maturity everyone has been crying for of submitting himself to rehab would be a key factor in success. if he fails then his lifestyle cant be blamed as the culprit and the Browns can move onto to their next stab at a quarterback.
I dont care what Jonny is telling people he has sought professional help for his issues which is a big step for him. does he come out of it a non drinker... mr clean who knows but i f he learns enough to exhibit some control over his life then good for him.

not once did i ever blame any of Manziels play on his drinking hell i said if the dude wants to party thats all on him.

Johnny sinks or swims on his ability to play football.

all in all though when you start refering to your opinion as we and the person your disagreeing as one individual seems like you are really intent on bolstering your views with generalizations of what other people think.

Heck was looking at Manziels Jerseys before he went to rehab. I dont care if Johnny goes drinking or if Romo goes plays gold If he wants to light it up like broadway joe or say a prayer like Tom Landry thats up to him. as a football fan im looking at what these guys do in relation to the game.

.

What?

Maybe so for most but Manziel, based on his past behavior, has lost all benefit of the doubt. He has a definable pattern of saying the right stuff but doing the exact opposite. Unless he emerges from rehab and proves AFTER he's been out for a while, that he has changed, no one will trust him that he's changed. At least you shouldn't. The Browns certainly aren't. He has an addiction problem and addicts lie and manipulate. Unless a new pattern is defined, you have to give him a chance but have a very short leash.

What benefit of the Doubt? Manziel either goes out and plays and performs or he doesnt. it doesnt really matter whether he gets the benefit of the doubt. He did however do the right thing and regardless of his motives its a positive not a negative.

Johnny said he would clean up in the spring and he did. he got drafted and went out and partied and said it was his right to. then he came out and apologized said he was in error and when he couldnt make that change committed himself to rehab.

this discussion initiated out of s comment that someone stated Johnny committing himself to rehab is an embarrassment to the city of Clevland. I disagree. anyone committing themselves to rehab on their own volition is taking a step in the right direction . i think shaming a guy for doing whats best for himself and his family and admitting he has s problem is more of an embrassment

well said Although i think Gold should probably be golf an unfortunate typo . and light up the town was an broad way expression with Joe's infamy for hitting all the parties.

The poster was probably trying to cite examples of different behavior athletes might do in their off time.

The benefit of the doubt is about his commitment to rehab and his true intentions, not his football ability (Which is low for NFL standards to begin with)

That's an April Fool's joke re: the Browns moving on from Johnny.

We're stuck with him. The joke's on us!

How on earth can you give a guy 2 starts as your 1st round pick (that you moved up to get) then move on from him?

Oh, that's right - Browns. Don't tell me for one second the Browns didn't look into Johnny's off-field issues before signing him up.

Give the guy a full season, unless you have someone else in mind not currently on the roster.

If someone stinks up the joint badly enough, I don't think they deserve a full season. Assuming he comes out of his rehab in good shape, and puts in the work/studying time that he didn't put in last year, I'm fine with giving him some starts. But he's got to show more than he did those last couple of games if he wants to last a full season, because it simply isn't fair to the rest of the team to put them out there with a guy who isn't even playing at a backup level.

When you have a guy like Josh McCown on the roster, there's no way you let him sit.
Besides, it would be breaking the tradition of casting away your young QB without giving him the proper chance.
Tradition is really important for browns fans.

Do you even football? Honestly did you watch his two performances? That was some of the worst QBing this expansion team has ever seen. Spare me the 'potential' stuff, those efforts were historically bad. Look, I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt last year, and I think maybe they go into camp with him and see what he has after an offseason of rehab but... just not seeing it.
