Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Don't see any post players coming in unless the Bynum deal happens (which they could be gearing up for considering all the bigs they are bringing on). If no Bynum, I assume they stand pat until the draft.

Other big need is a SF who can really knock 'em down. Pietrus? Delfino? I know they plan on bringing back Gee, but I think you need more unless they think Azabuikie is ready for minutes there and is 100% healthy now.

I agree, I think one of those 2 or Martell Webster. Either of those guys can play the 2/3, while playing decent d and making open 3's. They shouldn't cost more than 3 or 4 mil for a year. Just a stop gap for our future SF.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

If we get Bynum, I'd take a long look at AK-47. With Bynum and a healthy Irving, the East is weak outside of Miami and AK-47 defense/length would be nice to add next to our smallish backcourt. We have enough shooting (and yes I think Waiters will be fine from outside) to make up for his mediocre outside shooting.

Otherwise Delfino seems like a nice add: decent size, decent outside shot, experienced

Brandon Rush is another guy to put on the list. Good shooter and can play the 2 or 3. Has shot over 40% from 3 for his carrer, including an amazing 45.2% last season. He's an RFA, so GSW could match, but they already have Thompson, Curry, Barnes, Jefferson, and Jack who will all see some time at the 2 or 3. Seems like GSW would probably just let him walk.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

AK 47 already announced that he is staying in Europe. It looks like the Cavs aren't going to use free agency to address the hole at small forward, as painful as that is to think about. I think small forward will be addressed if and when a trade goes down or in the draft.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

I'd love Rush on this team.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

A lot of excitement over a guy who may average 8 minutes a game next year....

I like Jon although I think his range is being overrated a lot. He isn't Ryan Anderson pure from deep. He has an OK handle but not good enough to play SF. I do think he'd be excellent in a second unit for short bursts, especially at times when we may have very little range at SG and SF.

He is a major upgrade over Harangody though, who forces threes up because he knows thats a niche he needs to fill to be an NBA player even though he doesn't have that range at all.

I like the signing, am curious to see what this means for Kevin Jones who I hope gets a fair shake, and believe Harangody has probably seen his last days in Cleveland.

.

You have been here long enough to know 8 pages is not allot of excitement around here.

I agree he will be lucky to see 8 minutes, but still a nice pickup. These type of players turn out to be great bench guys 3 or 4 years into their careers. Sharp shooting bigs off the bench are hard to defend from other 2nd teamers.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

I see the Cavs are doing the OKC build a little differently. We are getting guys who can drive like Presti did with the Thunder, but we are getting bigs who can open the lane and stretch the floor so our drivers can...well drive.

I noticed this season a team with so man guys who can drive (like the Thunder and Cavs) need bigs who can shoot the 3. I like it.

I always thought the OKC build was pretty simple actually: "draft 2 superstars"

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

@nbadleague: .@Cavs assign 2nd-year forward Jon Leuer (6-10, 228, Wisconsin) to the @CantonCharge

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

He's looked pretty horrible out there so far. Looks like he is scared and nervous, just by his body language. Hopefully he can turn things around.

Why do lots of role players/marginal players seem to get a lot worse when they come to Cleveland?

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Leuer hasn't played well so far but I still think there's something there worth keeping around a little longer and trying to develop. Sending him to the D League for a little while is the right thing to get him on the court and playing big minutes. He needs to just play and relax for a while.
With the Cavs roster lacking in big time proven talent it can be tougher for the lesser role players to do that well when they really can't be in the roles that best suits them. There aren't those players to play off of.

Well, if the DLeague can't rebuild his confidence, nothing will :(

Re: Jon Leuer (assigned to D-League)

Its one way to compare him with Jones. It would be interesting to know if Leuer got D league duty as a message that he is next on the list of cuts, or if they are just trying to assess his relative value. From the box score it appears that Jones out played Samardo. He also grabbed more rebounds in 9 minutes than Tristan in 25, and interestingly did not give up a bunch of fouls, like everyone else on the front line.

Re: Jon Leuer (assigned to D-League)

I think his d league assignement was a message that he was sucking on the floor and wouldnt be getting any playing time. so go work on your defense.
