JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What has surprised me is that, even if he does not hesitate whatsoever to shoot, I haven't been groaning that often at his shot selection. The guy is open from three, he shoots the ball. He makes some ridiculous drives to the hoop. But he doesn't seem to force things as much as I expected. He doesn't take the long 2-pointers Dion mastered. He also doesn't stop the ball that often. Maybe I'm just pleased because he's not frustrating in the same way that Dion too often was.

I don't think he's perfect, but he's not getting in the way of the offense (at least when it is run, which is another story) and he's trying on defense. Still can't wait for Shumpert to get healthy.

Yea, I'll second the ball stopping. Even if it's a bad shot, it's a quick one. He's not gonna suck the life out of the team holding the ball for 27 days and then still hoisting a bad shot.

The thing is that Dion played so horribly and set the bar so low, that anything JR will do is considered an improvement. So I'm probably not going to ever get sick of him. Yea he might miss a couple bad shots in a game, big deal. He usually makes up for it in that same game. Dion missed A LOT of bad shots for months.

Jr has been huge for us. I can't wait to see what Shumpert can do.

I've been a huge fan of the JR trade since it happened and I believed JR fit this team really well, and I will stand by that... We needed a guy that could score without the ball in his hands, he gets the ball and either catch and shoots or takes a couple dribbles to create space and shoot or he keeps it moving. Just what this team needed, instant scoring as well. Good 3 point shooter, good attitude. We got JR (an upgrade over waiters) AND Shumpert... Gravy.

How did I miss this during the game?!

That's awesome.

Really liking how he's played for the team so far. I feel like the guy can go off for a ton of points on any given night, something I really didn't feel as confident about with Dion this season.

Can't wait for that scoring punch to come off the bench once Shumpert returns to the lineup.

It almost looks like JR Smith is fixing some chemistry issues with this team.

Since Andy went down no one has looked like they were having fun on the court. JR Smith, at least on the court, appears thrilled to be with the Cavs right now. It's showing up in his energy and effort and it's been contagious the last few games. Or Lebron could just be actually trying. Also possible.

Yeah...the thing I've most been impressed about Smith is he's been playing hard every game.

In 6 games since he was acquired by the Cavs, these are J.R. Smith's shooting percentages filtered by shot distance:

Some conclusions: as you can see in the 20-24ft line, only 23 shots register as 3-pointers from 20-24ft, meaning he's taken 10 very long twos in the span of 6 games and made 4 of them. He's also taken 23 very long threes and made 7 of those. This is one of the trends with J.R. that the coaching staff should be monitoring.
