They are high percentage shots because he has made them throughout his career and averaged 26 PPG while doing it. He got them mostly off pick-and-pops, which requires the ball-handler to set up. Our guards don't do that.
Instead of popping with Kevin, our guards like to jack up low percentage shots or set up a screen with Kevin popping/rolling and then cut the play off to shoot contested jumpers.
Not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that I'm not a fan of this line of reasoning that we continue to use on this forum.
We keep referring to last season with respect to Kevin Love's performance; even though, this season is practically over.
In the first half of the season it made some logical even mathematical sense to combine last season with this one as a positive prior history, indicating what should be happening.
However, that case doesn't make as much sense now.
Yes, there is likely an injury, but if it's been persistent for an entire NBA season then that might require surgery, and who knows how that might affect Kevin next year.
I've written too much simply to say that this current season should carry much more weight than last season.
Yes things can change, and yes, Kevin Love's next season will likely demonstrate some regression towards the mean.
But we shouldn't discount how he has performed this season, surrounded with these core players, under this coach; all things that are not likely to change. You can include his back and general health condition with that as well if you're so inclined.
I'm sure he'll do better; but it remains to be seen what exactly we can really get out of him on a consistent basis.
And btw..
I wouldn't do the trade.
