Will the experiment of him starting at 5 be quietly ushered aside?

He hasn't been starting at the five in either of the last two games where the Cavs defense was atrocious against bottom-feeders like the Bulls and the Nets. The Cavs have hole everywhere on the roster defensively. It's not just because Love is at the five.

Yes, I probably should have phrased that question "has it been ushered aside"

Was not a knock on Love, just wondering if that experiment is already done. I would not mind a more flexible approach to the starting line up, tailor it to the needs of the day.

What's the alternative to Love at 5 that improves the Cavs on defense? Tristan starting. He is no better of a rim protector. He's started at the 5 the last two games and the defense was shit.

Zizic? That's a lot of pressure to put on a rookie.

I think people are complaining about this without understanding the alternatives are underwhelming.

Love is the most overrated player in the league. Other than outlet passes and rebounding he isn't great at anything. Not a great finisher, shooter, defender. Those skills are important for a star and he is marginal at all 3.

You realize not many players in the NBA are great at two things?

I just want to point out saying that "Other than outlet passes and rebounding he isn't great at anything" just made me laugh for some reason.

I need to just stay out of this thread this season, for my own sanity.

The daily evaluations of Love are Skip Bayless bad around here.

It is nauseating.

I guess thats two things if half of those outlet passes weren't intercepted by the other team. Yeah they look great when completed but he just throws up 50/50 balls a lot of the time. Im not a love fan but he works hard for rebounds and has a good touch on his jumper but for some reason misses the mid range way more than I would expect especially wide open. His release on the jump hook is really odd for someone you'd expect to have a soft touch with that too.

His main problems are finishing around the basket because of anticipating contact and a foul call and simple understanding of defensive positioning on help and weak side. Did nobody else notice the offensive player forced baseline to Love and him move out of the way to allow a layup last game. Things like that drive me insane. With the shift of line ups for teams, Love has lost his major advantages.

Fuck you pacers. PG on this team at the 2 with Lebron at the 3 crowder at the 4. That’s all. Fuck you.

I came thinking of that lineup

I will forever hate the pacers

Some of my friends at 24 hour fitness have more athletic ability than K Love

Brb just missed a bunny, offensive reb, made it this time

Good lord. Have to say this every 2-3 weeks..
Love is not throwing 50/50 balls on his outlet passes. That is An absurd statement. He has averaged less than 2 T/O as a cavalier. Which is incredibly low.

And so we are clear outlet passes are more than just long bombs. After every rebound Love is looking to push the ball with passes up court. This creates easy shots with the D on their heels but that’s not all. His passes force the opponents guards to abandon Offensive rebounding because they must get back.

And why is he so important to our team?its because he is ne of the few players ever that can grab 10+ boards while averaging about 37% from 3. It’s incredibly hard to be both the floor stretcher and top rebounder every night. Typically bigs do one or the other.

Love also draws non shooting fouls at a high rate. This does not show up in the stat books but helps the Cavs get into the bonus quickly.

Dude deserves more touches.

I agree with pretty much everything you're saying.
I am in the opinion that the problem with Love is not his ability but rather coaching. The Cavs take advantage of barely any of his abilities.
Role players get more plays designed and called for them than Love, who is one of our All Star players. His passing ability is almost never utilized. He has a good midrange shot that he is VERY rarely in a position to take (because of offense design). And now pinning him against huge centers who just maul him gets him exhausted, beat up and frustrated quicker.

I really like Love and think he's a tremendous player. But if the Cavs can not find a way to utilize him, trade him for an actual All Star center and move on.

100%. All you guys complaining about Love wouldn’t be, if we actually bothered to focus the offense around his skillset and put him in a position to succeed.

Focus our offense around what? Inconsistent mid-range jumpers and inefficient jump hooks?
As someone mentioned earlier, Love is physically not able to bully guys under the basket and his jump hook/mid-range game is mightily inconsistent.

I personally don't want to see Love getting more shots/opportunities.
(After all, he averages only 4.6 shot attempts less than Lebron.)
In a league where 3-point shooting is most important, I certainly wouldn't increase Love's post touches.
And he's just not good enough around the basket to warrant that being a focal point of our offense.

Yeah let’s watch love get his shot blocked in the post some more. Or maybe we could see him get the ball stripped after a 10 dribble backdown.

I wish Kevin's mid-range game was money like Kevin Garnett's.
