Wow. Having dealt with panic/anxiety, I can relate. Pro athletes are SO good at what they do for a living that they would seem infallible in all areas of their lives. And they're conditioned to "push through" challenges from a young age. But the psyche is a complex entity, and good on Kevin for tackling this. Always been a KLove fan, but I'm gonna root a little louder for him now...

What's unfortunate is that there will be a group of fans who will try to use this against him or as proof that he's "soft".

Anyone that would say that about him are the soft ones.. it actually is the total opposite. It takes a real man to confront his mental health and even moreso to talk about it publicly, which had to have been difficult for him.

That was a great read. I too started therapy not that long ago, and also never thought I would ever do that, and it always helps to know that even people who seem to have the world by the balls have issues.

I didn’t read the article but I wonder if he then in Minnesota. Playing in the spotlight with Lebron must be stressful. I know bosh said he was relieved when Lebron left that he didn’t have to go through the pressure every year.

Reading what he wrote, my belief is that basketball is a very small part of it for him in any negative way. No offense but maybe you should take the time to read what he wrote before blindly speculating.

I was sure teams have huge support for the mental aspect of their players, from professionals, guess I was wrong, it’s just basketball and business.

Been there. Back in 2000 and 2001. Never really believed in panic attacks or anxiety attacks before I had them. They came out of nowhere and I had them for a year or so. At first, thought it was heart attack... after all kinds of testing showed nothing was “wrong” with me. It became debilitating and depression set in. Double whammy.

Once we finally figured out what it was, it made all the difference in the world in treating it. Havent had an attack or depression in 17 years.

The symptoms vary from person to person. I would get dizzy and feel like passing out. It would happen in meetings. My heart would race and I couldnt breathe. Which would cause panic.

Anyhow, i share my story so that anyone else who may have similar symptoms can consider anxiety earlier than I did, and seek the appropriate treatment. Its a real thing, and its treatable.

Fortunately, the stigma surrounding mental health issues has eased the last twenty years. Its still there... but the more people bring attention to it, the better for everyone. Really admire Kevin for opening up. Could help a lot of people.

I'm sure being in every trade rumor didn't help.

Powerful stuff from KLove. Same with Demarr. Many many people suffer from mental health issues and they are as serious as a broken bone or the flu. The "be a man" advice leads to suicide, drinking, Parkland, etc.

Can't wait for this guy to get back.

Happened to me once too. A Panick Attack was always a bit of an abstract concept to me. Until one day i had a stressful moment where i thought something bad happened to a person close to me (fortunately nothing happened) on the phone and it started.
I couldn't breathe, couldn't control my body, was sobbing without crying, just couldnt get any air in or out, it was pretty scary, and I'm glad the person on the phone helped me get my breathing back in rhythm and calmed me down, but even when i realized nothing bad happened to that person, as she was obviously still talking to me, i still couldn't get it together for a while.. The brain is a very powerful thing that can destroy you if you don't take good care of it.

Also, this is the first time i ever talked about it.

Good read. A few guys called it at the time, pulling the shirt off, his facial expression, the weird eyes. No-one is immune, not matter how fortunate and gifted you may appear to be.

The sad part is that the cavs didnt/dont have a culture where someone is trusted but rather is questioned. I hope IT and DWade reflect on how they handled that situation. I get that the team was going through extreme struggles, but no one deserves to be questioned like that.

What an absolutely fantastic article.

Like many others, this hit very close home to me. I was that big sporty "man" who didn't believe in anxiety or depression and thought people simply chose that route. Then, I had a massive panic attack and ended up in a squad car racing towards the hospital as they believed I had a heart attack..... all tests came back normal, it was a panic attack.

Like Kevin, I was shocked, concerned, and very confused. I wondered what people would think of me, how they'd label me etc. But over time, that meant nothing. I was able to get the help needed and like Kevin, peel back layers of my life that needed discussed.

I have mentioned it before on here, but I am a basketball coach at the HS level. I am so, so thankful for what I went through because I'm now able to help some of my players who experience the same thing. Mad props to Kevin for being in the spotlight but willing to tell his story to help others. I've always been a fan, but this truly puts him on a whole nother level for me.

IT showed a quick trigger when it came to playing the victim and blaming other's for his woes. At first I thought it was a a justified vent regarding the trade out of Boston, but his malcontent rep grew once he started to "re-integrate" with our team. In the end, he turned out to be a dick. I did a 180 on him - no hate, just glad he got packaged and shipped.
