Love definitely looks hobbled out there, but you can't fault him for competing. He passes up some shots he should probably take, but for the most part he's trying hard on defense, moving the ball well, and grabbing rebounds. I think not making the All-Star game is probably best for him at this point. He could use a week off.

Not sure if anyone commented on this yet, but Love's defense last night was fantastic. The Pistons game plan was clear: Attack Kevin Love on the block, all the time. But he held his own, and on multiple possessions was scrambling and making all his rotations. I can think of at least two hard close outs to the three point line that made a difference.

That and his facilitating last night were great.

But people that only want to point to how much he scores on any given night are just about as good as people that care only about RIIIINNNNGGGGZZZZZZ.

Should Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love make NBA All-Star Game 2015?

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Cavaliers' Tuesday night victory over the Detroit Pistons featured LeBron James and Kyrie Irving exploding for 70 of the team's 105 points.

It was domination by the two superstars. Irving had a season-high 38 points and James chipped in with 32.

Following the game, the two were forced to hold their postgame media availability in the hallway due to the large flock of media they attracted in the undersized locker room.

Kevin Love, who finished with seven points and eight boards, addressed the media at his locker stall. Approximately five or six media members surrounded him. That's a small glimpse into what this season has been like for the forgotten one-third of Cleveland's Big Three.

"That's how talented they are. You go into a game and I don't know, Kevin Love's been an All-Star for what? Three, four years. You don't even talk about him in your preparation hardly. That's how good the other guys are," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said.

Love is in unfamiliar territory.

For six years in Minnesota he was the face of the franchise. The ball went through him on most offensive possessions and he racked up gaudy statistics. Even though he's averaging 17.3 points and 10.3 rebounds this season, which isn't anything to be ashamed of, they're his lowest numbers since his second year in the league.

The majority knew his numbers would take a hit coming into this season, but it appears Love has disappeared from the offensive playbook altogether. In his last three games, the power forward is posting 11.7 points and 8.0 rebounds. He has reverted to being primarily a stretch-four, catch-and-shoot player.

Which brings us to the Big Apple.

A broken hand limited Love to 18 games during the 2012-13 season and thus, he was left off of the All-Star team and rightfully so. Aside from that year, he has been a Western Conference All-Star regular the past four years.

Now the million-dollar question: Is Love worthy of being an All-Star this year?

"Yes, I think so," Cavs coach David Blatt said. "...Kevin from his position is averaging a double-double while sacrificing some of his own individual game to help the team win and be successful. So yeah, you can certainly make a case for that. Absolutely."

Others are not so much in agreement.

In speaking with five team executives and seven scouts who shall remain anonymous to protect their positions, all with the exception of one scout said Love should be left off the roster.

"It would be a travesty if he made it," one league executive told Northeast Ohio Media Group. "A team in the fifth seed in the weak Eastern Conference can't have three guys in. That can't happen. You know what kind of outrage it would be? Can't happen."

And his advocate provides a take.

"His numbers are solid and there's no question he's had to sacrifice the most of the Big Three," a scout said. "If we're talking about star power and numbers, he should definitely get in."

To Love's credit, he's handling the situation like a professional. After Tuesday's win, the Cavaliers' seventh consecutive win, he admitted that it's even hard for him to envision roaming the streets of New York in mid February considering the team's 26-20 record.

"Either way I'll head home to see my family or head back to Los Angeles," he told NEOMG. "So, it's not anything that's really a big deal to me. Obviously I would like to be there, but it's going to be nice for me to get a break either way."

The NBA coaches are responsible for selecting the reserves for their respective conferences. They turned in their ballots Tuesday afternoon and the 14 names will be revealed Thursday night on TNT.

All in all, Love is having a strong campaign, but that might not be enough this year and he has accepted that.

"I'm OK with whatever happens," Love said. "As long as I'm helping my team win games, that's all I'm concerned about. The other stuff will take care of itself."

This guy looks like he is 80 years old running up and down the court but the national perspective is to blame the CAVS for not giving him touches. He also hesitates when he shoots wide open 3's. He is not the guy I saw in preseason. He is a good defensive rebounder though especially when there is space eater like Mogzov in the lineup.

Come on now, what stats even matter besides points, rebounds, and shooting percentage?

/sarcasm

I'd like for Love to spend some extra time with LeBron moving forward. If he starts incorporating LeBron's almost obsessive stretching and yoga routines into his day-to-day, I think it would do wonders for the little aches and pains he always seems to suffer from during the season.

I'm perfectly fine with his contributions to the team thus far. He was always going to have the steepest learning curve, because a big man will always rely on his perimeter players to get involved offensively. My only concern would arise if HE is not perfectly fine with this contributions to the team thus far. No use in dodging it, the man's contract can end this summer. Hopefully he's reasonable about the situation.

I'm not worried about Kev picking up his production, especially if he can get that rest that Bron got.

It seems like Bron has focused on helping to get Kyrie going, and now that he's there, I expect to see Bron looking for Love more in the second half of the season.

If Love was average just 3 more points per game, he would be up to 20/10, and it would be ridiculous for so-called analyst to talk about him being used poorly in Cleveland. Plus, he would be 1 of 4 20/10 players, with the other three all being first options, LMA, Cousins, and Davis. As someone else said, go ahead and try to find a more productive 3rd option in the league.

I wouldnt call it fantastic, he didnt suddenly become Anthony Davis. :chuckle:

But he competed, he manned up, and made a top 5 offensive pf earn his points.

In the end, that is all we can ask.

Love has actually been doing yoga since the 2012 season so i don't think we can pin it on that. His shot has looked flat for the past two weeks. I really think his back is too blame. He is being weighed down by braces, which constricts your upper body movement. It has made his shooting motion sporadic and must be quite frustrating to deal with.

People have disagreed with me before but Love just looks much smaller this year then he has in past years, especially in the shoulder / chest region. I really think it would be in our best interest to give him some rest if he continues to struggle.

Kev struggled tonight.. started off great but then couldn't hit anything.. but hey Kyrie fucking went apeshit.. great game and great W.. this is the 1st game I have been a little disappointed in Love's performance but he battled .. just needs to get in the paint more when his 3 ball is off

He missed some bunnies down low, and he looked incredibly hesitant shooting 3s. There's just no way that this guy is physically right at the moment. Especially after the knee thing late in the 4th, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a night off soon.
