Really not a hard shot, but its funny that he hit it, great shot non the less ...

The problem is... that wasn't a rebound. It didn't HIT the backboard, and was not a pass.

It was a shot. No rule says you can't SHOOT behind the backboard, is there?

I think the rule just says it can't go over the backboard. Re-read what he quoted:

Any ball that rebounds or passes directly behind the backboard, in either direction, from any point is considered out-of-bounds.

To me the part that says "in either direction, from any point," means that it should be out of bounds.

Honestly it looks like it nicked the top of the backboard from what I keep seeing in the replay...looks like the ball starts spinning differently at a certain point that would indicate something(the backboard) caused it to change its motion. 43 second mark of the video is what i'm talking about.

Either way it was a nice shot

I thought Kobe's reaction was the craziest part. He didn't even flinch when it went in, like it was a routine shot for him and he was just pissed he didn't get the foul call.

Doesn't have to be a rebound or pass. Re-read it. It says any ball that "passes directly behind," as in passes over, not a pass. Basically it reads "any ball that passes or carries directly over the backboard in either direction should be considered out of bounds." I remember this rule getting thrown in after the '02 or '03 playoffs when a game winner was hit over the backboard.

I'm not hating on Kobe, just wondering why this isn't enforced anymore. Was it amended? For instance, after Rondo hit his shot this year, the Philly broadcaster starts to mention "did that go over the backboard from behind?" before just dropping the subject.
