"Hi Koby, Dan here. I just got done talking to Bron and Rich Paul. We're done. We've agreed that it is best for us to part ways. Not an angry thing, no Comic Sans letters this time ... just a mutual recognition that it has been a good run, and now it is time for both of us to move on.
"LeBron wants to win more titles. So do I, but I want to build a team that is bigger than any one player -- like what they have in San Antonio. I want a franchise that is built to last.
"If we do not trade LeBron by the deadline, he will leave us in free agency this summer. One hundred percent chance. Now remember, LeBron does have full veto power over any trades. He has said that he will not approve a trade unless (1) his new team has a legitimate shot at winning it all this season, and (2) his new team does not have to gut their roster in order to get him. So you can't send him to Sacramento, or to Minnesota for Towns and Jimmy Butler.
"And if we do trade LeBron, then we'll probably want to make other moves too. I give you full freedom to make whatever trades you see fit ... within the NBA's rules, of course. No player and no pick is off-limits. If you want to turn over the entire roster, go for it. And don't worry about salaries. My checkbook is open.
"Looking forward to seeing what you can get done. Get to it."
You're Koby. After you put the phone down, and maybe pull the bottle of 30-year Glenlivet out of your desk for a quick shot, what do you do?
(Yes, this is all hypothetical. If you don't want to play, or are about to respond with "THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN!!", just click on to the next thread.)
