Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

Who does he compare to best? Based on what I have seen of him play, he has a bit of Chris Paul in him and a bit of Andre Miller too.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

Has anyone brought the Steve Nash comparison up yet?

He's like Chris Paul, but with more swag. I don't know if he'll be as good, but that's my comparison.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

His absolute peak to me appears to be a Isiah Thomas/Steve Nash hybrid.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

personally he has always reminded me of isiah thomas. i dont know if he'll be as effective. but his all round game and general attitude he approaches the games

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

He reminds me more of Deron than Paul, IMO.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

Why can't he just be Kyrie Irving

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

Isiah Thomas did not shoot many 3s and when he did, he was quite average (29%). Additionally, he was only a decent free throw shooter as well (76%). These are TS% Kyrie is expected excel in for his career. That's the part that reminds me of Nash.

But what Isiah did was become a master of the court between the rim and the three point line. He had all the shots. Despite being a pedestrian FT shooter, Thomas shot 46% for his career. That shotmaking ability is why I am so high on Irving and not guys like Westbrook and Wall. Those guys are athletes but they're not shotmakers. They will always have difficulty finishing in the paint. People try to put them in the same class as Rose due to athletic prowess but Rose is a shotmaker.

We may have the best of both worlds. We'll see how Kyrie develops. Should be a great ride.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

I said that constantly in the pre draft hype.

His game reminds me a ton of Steve Nash.

Especially with the passing... four games in and he's made some absolutely gorgeous assists.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

i just dont see nash as a player that will be easily copied. If your talking statistically then i agree but nash plays basketball like a game of football (soccer) he plays in curves instead of straight lines and in perpetual motion. Kyrie is not like that at all

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

I see a lot of Magic Johnson in his game, except a much shorter version, which limits his post play. They both see the floor and know what their team mate should be doing. It's going to be fun to watch when he and TT run the floor together.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

Irving has been showing glimpses of his changeup speed but he still needs to tune it to NBA pace. Once he does he will be able to move anywhere on the court.

Good call by scot or whoever to go game without passing to AV . Irving needs to build chemistry with all the guys on the court.

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

I stumbled upon interesting stats about Kyrie tonight...

The kid is tied for the 60th place in Points+Rebounds+Assist ratio.
He's got 22.8 and is ahead of some pretty nice pg names : Tony Parker, Chauncey Billups, Jrue Holiday, Andre Miller, Steve Nash and Darren Collison to name a few.
Amongst Rookies he stands on top, well ahead of Rubio (19.0) Marshan Brooks (18.2) Kemba Walker (18.0). TT has 12 and is 10th amongst rookies.
Lebron leads the league with 43.5, closely followed by Kevin Love and Andrew Bynum

If you look at the Efficiency amongst rookies, Rubio is first, followed by Irving, Markieff Morris, Marshon Brooks and Norris Cole. TT is 9th

It's better than Westbrook's efficiency his rookie year, but trailing Rose's by 3 and way behind Chris Paul's though!

Even though stats is definitely not everything and that there is much more to be taken into account, you can't deny they have some meaning (coaches wouldn't use em all the time). I think rookie wise, it is pretty close to what I have been seeing out of the young fellas. I would have thought TT would be higher though.
Rubio has "looked" better as in playing fluently, comfortably but Irving shows more potential to me. He looks either reckless or too cautious on the court but somehow manages to be pretty productive. He will find his rythm in the NBA sooner than later I believe. He comes with the full package and attitude as bonus!
I am hoping Irving can finish the season around PAR 17 - 6,5 - 4,5, but it might be asking for too much :)

Just a thought!

Re: Kyrie Irving (LHLD)

Rubio is going to be a nice PG, but Irving has much more potential in the NBA...

Don't forget, Rubio has been playing in the Euros while Kyrie has been out for almost a year without much basketball.
