rubio is playing with (arguably) the best power forward in the game, and the no.2 overall pick in derrick williams. kyrie plays with one offensive threat, antawn jamison, and he is a chucker

I guarantee that rubio would be doing the exact same things. playing at the same level with the cavs. Irvings overall game is statistically superior to rubios. propping his teammates over irvings isnt necessary nor true.

its just a cop out. it doesnt matter who you surround irving or rubio with. Rubio is a superb passer.

Cavs have more assist than the t wolves. they pass the ball more as a team.
Minnesota doesnt shoot much better than the cavs

I know that Irving is a better player. When people take Rubio over Irving in whatever hypothetical situation, it's usually because of his playmaking. I'm just narrowing the gap in terms of each player's potential as a playmaker. I should have been more specific with giving context to what I was talking about. All I'm saying is that Irving has the potential to be as good of a playmaker as Rubio especially five years from now, and I'm talking about being as good of a playmaker as Rubio will be five years from now. It would be hard to argue that Rubio's not much, much closer to his ceiling than Kyrie is to his respective ceiling. If I had to say who will be the better playmaker overall in their career, I'd go with Rubio, but the two likely aren't as far away in terms of potential as playmakers as people make it out to be. Kyrie will close the gap in assists to 80-100% of what Rubio is doing in time.

While Kyrie has focused on scoring thus far in his short NBA career, he is already setting up teammates, penetrating into the lane, handling the ball, and running the offense better than Gibson ever has/ever will. Add to it that he's a better shooter and can create his own shot...calling Kyrie a rich Gibson is like calling Dwight Howard a rich Ryan Hollins. They are so far apart that you can't compare them that way.

Not sure about the need to bash gibson here. he still remains the only cavs player whose team on off production improves offensively and defensively when he is on court to odd the court.

just remember a guy like irving doesnt win without a few boobie type players on his roster

and yet the cavs are still outshootng the twolves and have more assist as a team.

denver is number 1 in assist per game, ty lawson is averaging 6.7 apg. team stats are kind of irrelevant

Might have been Kyrie's best PG game tonight. Could tell that he knew he wasn't going to get easy shots at the rim. So instead of forcing them, he played the drive and kick, and PnR game very well.

That's because Denver's a great TEAM. They can all score, defend, and rebound, without any elite players.
i understand that, thats not what i was arguing

edit: honestly i was very unclear on what i was saying. im really tired. meant to get the point across that even though the cavs as a team have more apg than the wolves it does not mean that jamison and - ...uhhh whos our next best scorer besides irving? no one else besides jamison and irving are in double digits scoring wise - are better than love, ridnour, etc. 4 other players besides rubio are in double digit scoring. in order to register an assist, the player has to make a shot. anyone who watches the game sees jamison miss wide open shots, or chuck the ball as soon as he touches it.

Some quotes from Kyrie after the game:

KYRIE IRVING

(On Anderson Varejao’s play tonight): “He brings a toughness here and it’s contagious. It was contagious throughout the entire game, even through our bench. The bench is just as important as the starters, so it feels good to win.”

(On staying involved defensively and setting up his teammates): “I wasn’t really focused on my offense. I just wanted to help out my teammates. I only attempted six shots tonight and I have no problem doing that. I get my teammates involved and that’s the most important thing. Hopefully, we can have more games like this and whether I score the ball or not, I’m still happy.

Sounds better than....

To people who take rubio over kyrie, the rebuttle is simple. If the wolves had kyrie they would have won a lot more games this season.

Yes, he's doing all that and turning over the ball almost as often as he dishes out an assist.; and yes he's getting to the rim, but he's also missing a lot and getting his shot blocked. And yet even when his A/TO ratio is under control and he's finishing at a high level ... that still isn't what's going to elevate him to the elite PG level.

He needs to make the players around him better. That's the bottom line for a PG.

Kyrie is doing great, but let's not get ridiculous by thinking he's a top-5 PG already.

And you do realize Irving is one of the biggest reasons why we are 7-10 instead of 2-15, right?
