There aren't too many defensive shutdown PGs out there, so KI doesn't necessarily have to defend like Bledsoe, but he can't be a Calderonesque sieve either. He just didn't try to go through screens after initial contact and didn't close on shooter with much effort. I don't think he can ever be a stopper and might not ever be a + defender, but if he's average or just a little below average defensively, this team becomes a lot better than it is projected to be right now. Of course, if we can get a rim protector, we might be able to get away with KI being poor on the defensive end again, but that might preclude us from becoming a really dominant 8+ SRS, 64+ win type team. I really feel that Dion is going to take a step up as a defender this year, and if KI follows suit, so much good can come of it.

I am quite intrigued by KI's defensive efforts this summer in FIBA play. He is playing his role on the team to perfection. I hope this carries over on The Cavs. I have a hard time believing he will stop giving effort on the defensive end with Lebron on the team.

When he plays with this type of effort, he is truly a pest. His hands coupled with his Bball IQ should lead to multiple run-outs a game due to steals.

KI can only get better on D IMO. If he commits himself, i expect him to be an above-average defender for a PG by the year's end. With a couple years of commitment to that end, i could see him being a defensive force. He has great size, great hands, and is not afraid to be physical. He just needs to stay committed to D throughout the year so when he gets his first taste of playoff basketball, he won't be in over his head.

wow he's watching delly? thats awesome

Bully Ball go Delly this in my my estimation legitimizes my fan crush on Delly as the 2nd pg and we got a top 15 caliber steal as an undrafted f/a.

It's funny listening to fans and even GMs of other teams denigrate Love or Irving and wonder how they'll like being the 2rd or 3rd fiddle..

They'll love it. They'll Love playing with other elite players. Love being able to win even on the nights that they just don't have it and love being able to carry the team on their back on nights where one of the other guys don't have it.

Do people knock James Worthy or late career Kareem because Magic was the main man on that team from 82 on? No. All three guys are Hall of Famers and all have multiple championships that they won together.

Where did the notion of a player winning a title all by himself come from? Michael? Who had Pippen, Rodman, Grant, Kukoc.

Great teams have always had 3-4 great players at the top.

Well, I watched the full game and must say: Kyrie played absolutely fantastic. He made the most of his minutes.
Kyrie had 13 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, 1 rebound and 1 block in 24 minutes. That's pretty good, I guess.

I will post highlights as soon as they are available!

Couple things stick out about the box scores. Kyrie had another 3 steals, really turning it up defensively, and Kyrie might be the 2nd best player on the team as Harden hasnt been as efficient as Kyrie.

And the final thing that sticks out is wow, Davis is just a beast. 18 pts, (on 8 shots) 9 rebs 5 blocks and 3 stls all in a whopping 19 mins. He might be the best pf in the game next year, no insult to Love or LA.

From Chris Sheridan:

Sheridan: Five takeaways from USA-Slovenia exhibition

2. The point guard controversy should be over now, folks. Folks in Chicago do not want to hear the truth, but the truth is this: Derrick Rose has not looked very good except for a couple of very brief stretches. He shot 0-for-3 today with one assist and three turnovers, he was 3-for-6 at the line, and he was a minus-4 in his 20 1/2 minutes and got toasted at least twice by Goran Dragic. Kyrie Irving, meanwhile, was a plus-39 and scored 13 points with three assists (FIBA statisticians are notoriously stingy when crediting assists) in his 24 minutes. Coach K told Marc Stein of ESPN.com that he was considering alternating Irving and Rose as starters when the World Cup begins. At this point, that would be silly. Irving is clearly the superior player right now.
