because reality bites lol whaaaaa

If the roles were reversed and kyrie was in the back shooting people would be saying look at kyries work ethic as the other two clown around.

Because the Bulls look like our biggest threat (maybe only real threat) against us in the ECF. If Rose plays like he has so far then we basically have a cakewalk to the Finals barring injury: easy playoff run means we can rest guys like Lebron, AV, Miller, and Marion who are older.

He only averaged 7-2-3 last time he played for USA so I wouldn't put much into this. He obviously isn't attacking he is turning it over but his defense has been great.

Just to bring a little reality into play. I like Kyrie, and I think he'll really be a much better player without having to play a leadership role, but as of now he has a way to go before we can call him a "top" point guard. See below:

He plays for the cavs. This is a cavs forum. So obviously were going to be biased towards him and say that.

Check the guns on young fella. Must be putting in work. Hopefully Kyrie isn't too worn out from this team USA thing.

He's so young, he's got no excuse. Try making that argument to LeBron James, as to why you are tired.

Dude has done it multiple times, and he almost won DPOY because he guards the best player every night, in addition to playing for team USA.

A poor attempt at ranking the top 10 point guards in the league.
I don't think it's that bad, particularly when you take into account Irving's defensive liability. Remember, we're not talking about potential in evaluations like these. We're talking about performance levels to date. Based on performance, including defense as well as offense, which of the better-rated point guards would you rate below Irving?

You realize that BS list you posted is written by a college student in what is essentially SIs Bleacher Report, right?

That's not much of a riposte to my question, which I repeat: Which of the better-rated point guards would you rate below Irving?

Lillard, Wall, Rose, and Rondo are each guys I would put below Irving.

Irving has played in 181 games over the last 3 years, Rondo and Rose have combined to play in 170 over the same span.

I think Lillard is a very good player, but for all the criticism Kyrie gets for his defense, Lillard is no better. He just happens to be on an experienced, talented team that can cover up for his mistakes while allowing him to play to his strengths.

Wall, he is a good defender, but his new jump shot is overrated. I just have a hard time putting him ahead of Irving when good defensive teams have no problem game-planning to stop him.

I was so tempted to stop reading when I saw them rank Russell ahead of CP3...that's terrible. But nonetheless, Dame and Rondo aren't better than Kyrie Irving right now. Also I see Kyrie surpassing John Wall this season easily. Furthermore, I don't think it's fair to put Derrick Rose so high at all. From what we've seen in USA Basketball this summer, Rose isn't better than Kyrie.

I guess what I'm trying to say is Kyrie @9 is BS. That list was pretty bad. They're predicting a 20-5-4 line for Kyrie which is extremely conservative so I'm thinking once the season starts and he blows that projection out of the water they'll move his ranking up a couple notches. Still a pretty terrible list. How the fuck are you going to rank Dame and Wall better than Kyrie when Kyrie is the starting USA PG and those 2 didn't even make the cut?

Someone needs to tell the writer to do his homework next time...

Well, I think pretty much most people would agree that from that list, Irving is a better player than:

Lillard, (no question)
Wall, (Wall better defense, better facilitator; everything else goes Irving's way and it's not close)
Parker, (Parker has aged)
Rose, (It's 2014, wake up and smell the Roses)
Rondo (read the above)

Westbrook is better than Irving because he's a better defender; but if I'm starting a franchise, I'd take Irving due to youth, malleability, and his attitude towards the game (doesn't need to be the man).

Chris Paul is a no-brainer. But eventually, Father Time will even things out.

Steph Curry excelled on a playoff team, while Irving languished on one of the most mismanaged franchises in the NBA.

I have Irving 4th among PGs in the NBA as of last season. Having watched FIBA; I think he'll come in and probably rank 2nd next season, and first thereafter.

I'm not answering the question because I am not arguing about some guys opinion piece that he wrote. Here, I'll go sign up, create a list of top PGs article, rank Kyrie #1, then let you discuss it as if it is fact as well.

Exactly... He said its what they do not potential. But half those players have barely played. I agree I think Lillard, rose and rondo should all be below Irving with wall being similar territory as Irving but still not as good. What is most obvious that this guy knows nothing about the NBA is that he has Parker at 8... Parker is probably 3. if not 2...

I'd rate Irving higher than the 9th spot he got in the Bleacher Report rating. He's better than Rondo at this point, and I think better than Rose though that's hard to say because we don't know whether he's recovered from his knee problems. I agree that Lillard is a sieve on defense, like Irving, but he's a better shooter, and I'd rate Wall over Irving because of Wall's defensive abilities. I think the Cavs are lucky to have Irving as their point guard, but as I said in my original post I don't think he's a "top" point guard. Maybe I should have said I didn't think Irving is a "top five" point guard.
