There's a lot wrong with this team right now, but I wouldn't put Mike Brown anywhere on the list of key problems. I get why he's a scapegoat. But to me there are bigger things that are contributing to a terrible start.
1) Incorporating Bynum. The players have said it in different ways for weeks. They are having to treat the games like practice while learning a new offense that is centered around a post player -- something the young guys haven't done before. On top of that, the post player isn't good. If you imagine what this team would look like if it ran its offense through Shaq right now -- when he's 40 -- that's pretty much what you're getting with Bynum. And instead of getting out and running with the young, quick guys you've drafted, we're in this bizarro world. I blame the front office. Instead of sticking with the game plan they tried for a cheat code to make the playoffs and that piece not only isn't good but it doesn't fit with the other pieces you already have.
2) The young guys. There's a lot of issues that go into this but two things stand out: Kyrie and Dion don't like each other. You would think after spending the summer playing together in USA basketball camps there would be stories about them bonding, spending time together, etc. Nope. Kyrie is the best player and Dion is an alpha. And it's obvious they can't stand each other. Feels like Ricky Davis/Lebron James all over again. Except in this instance, Ricky Davis was brought in to help LeBron. Not good. That's also on the front office. The other issue is Anthony Bennett. Whether it's conditioning, coming off injury, or being overwhelmed by the game, none of the answers are appealing. He's a train wreck at the moment.
3) The wing positions. Going by the league average, these are the two positions that produce the most points. For the Cavs, they are a total disaster on the starting unit -- a fact compounded by Kyrie and Dion not wanting to share the ball or the court. Karasev and Gee starting games with a 40-year-old Shaq? GTFO.
From where I'm sitting, the quickest fix is pulling the plug on the Bynum experiment. From there, it's about the young guys either figuring it out or one of them (Dion) getting shipped out.
