Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't have a problem with the Strus deal -- he's been overly productive despite streaky shooting.. Even if he's not shooting well he's still contributing in other ways (rebounds, assists, spacing).. Think the problem is ideally he's your sixth man, or he's your shooting guard and you have an elite guard and wing combo..

Not sure what the rush was to give Niang $8M+ AAV for three years... That $8M range seems to be a deadspot any value: Gary Payon, TJ McConnell, Delon Wright, Jock Landale, Trey Lyles, and MO Wagner..
Cleveland didn't have any money to work with and the way Koby was able to pull off the Strus sign and trade deal I thought was nicely done...

I think we saw the limits of building around 2 guards with McCollum and Lillard. I also think we are seeing even lower returns with our version of this.

We need to take a modern view of the NBA and move on from building around 2 guards. I think we are also luck to have Mobley or Allen to package with Garland to find that other player to build around. Mitchell is the one to build around and we need to find a wing to pair with him.

If Brandon Ingram is available this offseason we should go after him.

I don't think that was the sole plan.

The hope was Mobley would blossom into a franchise player.

And Garland and Mitchell, eventually, would compliment him.

There's a valid question, if Mobley will ever be much better than Jarrett Allen TBH.

Our big hope was the Garland and Mobley development.

Garland being an all-star caliber player, and Mobley turning into superstar. That return, looks pretty depressing to me.

It's sad we are look like a LeBron first stint team, with Mitchell doing a half decent impersonation of it.

Garland needs to go to the bench and willing to see Niang start. Cavs starters too small against Boston that they just switch everything.
Mitchell
Levert
Strus
Niang
Mobley

Bench:
Garland
Merrill
Okoro
TT

If our hope is Niang, they shouldn't even come back to Cleveland to play the remaining series.

Love Mobley but I don't want to see that 17 points on the highlight stats. He got most of those in garbage time when it no longer mattered. If he was that aggressive to start the game or when the team needed it, maybe the game would've been closer.

If the hope was that Mobley would blossom into a franchise player, it should have been on Koby to make sure JBB had a plan on how to do that. After last year, it was pretty clear there was no plan, yet Koby stuck with JBB.

At this point my faith that Koby will get both roster construction and the search for a new coach right is near 0%. We need someone who has a real vision for what to build this team into. The next trade we do will make or break this team. If they get it wrong it will put the franchise into a real bad position until we can control our own destiny through the draft again in 2030.

The limits of that team were more so a starting frontcourt of Nurkic, Farouq-Aminu and Mo Harkless then it was an indictment against building around McCollum and Lillard..

The problem is that trading for Mitchell pushed Mobley's development way to the back of the stove, and you can't blame that on JB. There's something to be said for forcing it on a player, giving him the reins. Instead with Mitchell we became a win now team. It's hard to develop someone when it's all about the W's. Instead of being the first option, Mobley is the 3rd or the 4th. That's just the reality on a win now team.

That sf better be really good . We could also use a pg that is not a horrid defender , not injury prone and does not play scared tooo….

Some would call him the GOAT

Why not?

Does it not follow that a coach with a poor offensive system, if one is charitable to call it that, would not necessarily constitute the preferred choice to develop a young player offensively?

That said, Mobley's defensive development has been superb.

I hate Mobley! At least twice in last night's game (GM1) he turned down taking the ball to the hoop with only Al Horford in between. Dude is soft as a kitten. He's what I call a turn down player. i.e. when it's time to take over he's looking to pass it to somebody else. I don't think he'll ever be any kind of force in the middle or even a 3 and D PF. Even the opposing scrub big men are licking their chops when they see him in there.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but is there any of us who don't think Scottie Barnes would have been a better choice?

No

I disagree with this completely. Mobley’s lack of development is an organizational failure as it was entrusted to a coach who has no offensive identity.
it is purely on JBB and by extension Altman. Both are liable for it.
