Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The first pick in the draft should not have a PER in the 9 range and not be in the top ten rookie per with most of the players picked in the top 10 not playing.

I think an eFG% of 40.5 is pretty bad but my eyes told me in preseason that Danny Ferry was also pretty bad. At least Wiggins is better than the old Kobe or the awful released Jsmooth.

Look at the dumpster fire of a team he is on.

Their only legitimate option to handle the ball is Rubio.

The team is not built for Wiggins to succeed.

If the TWolves were making the pick, I have no doubt it would have been Jabari... who would be a better player for a rebuilding team.

Wiggins would have been the better player on the Cavs.

Why don't we get to be happy?

I mean, with what happened to us this off-season, and with all the lottery luck we've had in the recent past, had this series of events happened to any other of the 29 teams in the league I'd say 28 games in that you're looking at a dominating force, a lock for the championship even; a team so exciting that their fan base drools after every performance.

But no, not in Cleveland. 28 games in and my fear from game 1 still exists: uncertainly, frustration, underachievement.

Have we run out of luck? Are our expectations still too high? I'd like to say 'no.' But at this stage, I'm really puzzled as to where this team goes next. Of course it could be a lot worse, but it should be a lot better.

So how do we get there? Because the very last thing we want is to add 'The Return' to the ever-expanding narrative of failures documented in 'The Cleveland Sports Curse.'

"The Comeback."

Im really, really sorry.

this team got overhyped in the offseason. Yes, Kevin Love is a good addition, but his lack of defense and athleticism really does weaken our front court defense quite a bit.

Andy was never going to cut it as a starting center even if he did say healthy. We should've moved on Andy and looked for someone better. It was apparent we had a huge hole at center, and you at least need a DECENT center to expect to compete with elite teams. Andy is a decent pick and roll defender, but he's really quite bad at defending the rim because he can't jump AT ALL. he has zero shot blocking ability. Andy often get's incorrectly dubbed a "great defender" because he can defend that pick n roll with his quick feet, but his lack of interior defense has always been a problem. so you have two bigs who are pretty terrible at defending the rim in Love and Varejao.

then there's the bench. I'm sorry, but a decrepit Marion and Miller never got me that excited. they are much better than what we had in the past coming off the bench, but compared to the elite teams in this league our bench still leaves much to be desired.

unfortunately the NBA is SUPER stacked with talent right now. The elite teams these days often have 3 legit allstars PLUS a few other players who are borderline allstars, PLUS a really good bench. The cavs have the 3 allstars part covered, but the rest of this roster is not good enough to compete with those super stacked teams in the NBA these days. this is the best roster the cavs have had, but unfortunately it's still not good enough in today's ridiculously talent-stuffed league. In most other seasons, this cavs roster would absolutely be good enough. but there are just too many good teams in the NBA right now.

I just don't understand how people thought we could win a chip this year. I mean sure we would compete but look at what we have going against us new coach, only four players from last year returning, new system, paper thin front court with no rim protection, and getting rid of a festering losing culture that plagued this team. The teams not finished and has no continuity, I'm just happy the young guys can get some playoff experience.

so your solution to the center problem was to trade away the one guy on the team that could play center.

got it.

The NBA is really stacked now. You are right about that. But most of those teams are in the West.

Don't forget last years Pacers. The games in Nov/Dec/Jan don't matter too much. Having said that, the effort is piss poor and I won't be buying tickets again this year since it is clear LBJ plans to coast until the ASG.

Why the hell is Blatt kicking the tires and putting Haywood in the goddam game?

I don't know what's going on, but I don't feel like this team is anywhere near stable. Never mind the injuries, I'm talking about LeBron. His play in the Heat game is a classic "if you just look at the scoreboard..." type of game. Missed FTs, OK. That happens sometimes. But some of his shot selection just was weird. Like he was taking "Kobe" shots (he made one of them).

Sometimes I feel like he really wants to usurp the team and build it into his own image, instead of going along with an actual game plan and flourishing. The Cavs aren't running a "Blatt" offense; it's being corrupted by the ball-handlers. Kevin Love seems "frozen out". I still am not enthused about his defensive effort. He just doesn't have it there. Even Dion, someone of whom I'm very critical does. Kyrie has made immense strides in this department. (LeBron sometimes seems like he's slacking there).

Or maybe I'm just overthinking it and the Cavs need to find someway to upgrade perimeter and interior defense and everything will be OK. All I know is that right today, the Cavs don't win a title (I said this before the Love trade, even before LeBron inexplicably came back). Can they?

While I get the frustration, I think we just have to look at the positives on a consistent basis. We have LeBron. We are going to get to the playoffs one way or another for the next few years. We've beaten all of the teams that are above us in the east ALREADY this year. We have some of the most talented players in the league and we are whining because they still aren't playing like the spurs (who, by the way, we are only like 1 game behind). We obviously are still building trust, but lets enjoy the basketball even on losing nights, because even just having Lebron saved us from being 11-17 at this point. Lets just be happy while we can.

Right today the Cavs lose to the Bulls in the first round. Talk of a title with things going as they presently are... yeah. That's not happening.

Well a mixed bag now..they go back n forth playing well ,then not playing well..
I stick to what I see in Lebron as he is not the player he's been for the last several years , although what I see tells me there's more than him losing a step.
He lost too much bulk. His game was being physical and no one being able to stop him or wanting to get in his way.
I also don't see that mental toughness he was getting either.

The AV injury forces Griff to get a big, as I hope he doesn't see if he can work with his tiny team now.

Love is not being focused on like he was in previous games , Dion is erratic..there's not a viable 2guard to start and it is kinda hurting that would have been solved if Wiggins hadn't had to be dealt.
My bigger issue is looks like Cavs need a bit more assets to do some more deals.

My biggest fear with Andy getting hurt is teams thinking they can kill us in a deal for a big and us deciding yeah we know you are swindling us but we are going to do it.

If the deal to make a Championship run is too costly (because even if we get who we want Mozgov imo), that's not a guaratee we win it all.

I'm ok with not doing a bad deal where we get ripped off.
Going in I wasn't expecting a Championship this year.
Hoping for it yes.
Still hoping for it, yes.

Use this year to keep figuring things out, hopefully get a big at the trade deadline or in the offseason.
It looked like even before Andy went down we needed a big to rim protect anyway.
