Luol Deng

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am really not thrilled to give Deng an extension...he has a ton of mileage on him and seems like he will start to break down soon in his career if he isn't already

agreed. my opinion on him has done a 180 after watching his last few games. Before I was 100% adamant about resigning him, but he just looks hobbled out there. If we can get a young guy and a pick (MKG?) I'd rather do that. edit- MKG is shooting 11% for 3 this season.. jesus tap dancing christ

If we can get a middling first round pick for Deng we will have won the Bynum acquisition

When Deng got here he was supposed to be a good citizen. He talked the talk, saying he was hoping he would sign here.
A week later, after the Knick game, a story attributed to him said there was a horrible atmosphere here.
Now another story saying there is "no way" he would sign here.

The way he has been playing lately I would say he has the bad attitude, or loose lips. Maybe both.

Agree 1000%. If I'm our new interim GM, I'm auctioning him off to the highest bidder.

If we can get a pick back, even with heavy lottery protection, then we basically gave up 2 mid 2nd rounders we didn't need to throw a hail mary.

Going from Thibs to Brown will do that to you, no?

I was all for re-signing Deng back when he was viewed as the "missing piece" for this team to start winning. But if this roster is gonna go through some kind of overhaul (which it looks like it will), then committing big money to Deng really doesn't make much sense.

Probably meaningless but:

When Deng was on the Bulls this year, they were 14-18.

Since he was moved, they are 10-7.

The Bulls record during games that Deng actually played in was 10-13.

Their record in games in which Deng wasn't on the team or didn't play is 14-12.

I agree and will go further by saying that Deng on the court has not raised the level of play for the Cavs either. Actually they played much better last game against the Wiz without Deng. Add in his age and all the tread on that tire there's no way I pay Deng what he's looking to get in FA this summer. Not to mention, for supposedly such a great locker room guy, it only took him a minute to start throwing the team under the bus. I'll pass on this cat..

Two things worry me about Deng at the moment, for 1. he could walk in the offseason and the Cavs get nothing in return and 2. he looks awfully slow and hobbled at this point in time. I would be really afraid of giving him a high dollar extension with the way he looks, doesn't look like a $12-14m per year player. I'm starting to feel like the Cavs should be exploring what they can get back in a trade for Deng. If you can get a good return, I think I would pull the trigger.

I would move him for a mid teens pick. Or extend him for a max of 3 yrs with a fourth yr team option.

I don't think this say much at all about Deng and actually, unfairly puts hims in bad light.. He had a solid net +/- in Chicago. Actually easily the best net +/- on the Bulls.

It's comical how when we acquired Deng, people thought he would fit like a glove and be great in Mike Brown's system... Yet Mike Brown has made him look like a below average player. :chuckles: MB is the gift that keeps on giving

Deng (Achilles) was held out of practice on Monday.

Deng is longing for the All-Star break, which starts Thursday, to help with his Achilles.

“The All-Star break will be huge for me,” he said. “I’ll be able to give it some rest. I’m hoping to get back to 100 percent or close to it.

We should just keep him on the bench until after the break.
