Well if everyone does that, then our revenue goes down. When the revenue goes down I will not have the money to pay for the site. So its up to you guys.
Um... Glen?
When will revenue be easier for this site to gain so you don't have to use Advertising? I'm willing to suck it up because of the value of this site, but not everybody on this site has a nice MacBook to avoid these problems. Even I had problems when I used a Windows Operating System with another Mac. It kept closing the FireFox and opening an "armyprotection" fake ad that kept causing FireFox to malfunction.
I know you need revenue for this site, so wouldn't it make sense to also donate to help out? Can you help us out here with coming to some solution? This site is too valuable to be let go. You're an important person to allow this site to continue to be great. What can be done? It's almost the sole reason I surf the net most days. It would be sad if it were to go.
Glen, maybe you've posted this somewhere else but I just can't find it. Or maybe you don't want us RCFers to know this. I was curious: How much does it cost per month to keep the site up and running?
i would like to know how many people get warnings. I run 3 different computers to get to this site all with different configs (2 vista-one IE, one fire fox and then a windows 7 on firefox), and only maybe once was I hit with anything (dont know if it was this site or damage's site). either way Im really curious why some people seem to be getting hit, while clearly the majority of users arent. It seems really kinda fishy to me.
I use XP.....I also use pop-up stopper free edition (which I've used for years). I use firefox as well. I'm positive these issues have nothing to do with an "unsafe" machine - i.e. a person without a pop-up blocker or anti-virus.
I keep getting frozen on the NorthEast Factory Direct ad, and I do get the fake pop-up thing that says your computer might be infected.
It's possible Vista and Win 7 are eliminating these ad/malware. But one thing is for sure...it's definitely affecting the end-user.
I think if we start getting some users to post what kind of OS and browsers and what-not they use we can get a better grasp of what the problem may be. I am a relatively experienced computer user so these problems are definitely an issue to take seriously - mainly because they are annoying and obtrusive....but it's possible they can cause more serious problems for people who aren't as tech savy.
