Managing minutes/lineups for this team...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It may also have been that LBJ really wanted to stay in and turn around his crappy start, so he pushed Blatt to play him more minutes, and Blatt obliged. I don't really have a problem with him giving into LBJ under these particular circumstances.

I wasn't a fan of the Cavs going big with LeBron playing the 2. I think this team either needs to go small when down to stick to traditional lineups. LeBron, right now, does not look like a primary ball handler.

The way I would try to handle the rotation in general would be to play the starters for 6 minutes, sub out Waiters and Love for Miller (or Delly if Miller looks like shit) and Marion. At 8 minutes sub Thompson for Varejao. At the quarter sub Dellavedova, Waiters, Love for Irving, James, Miller. At 6 left in the half sub Irving, James, Varejao for Delly, Marion, Thompson. Same thing in the second half.

There is really no reason to have to play LeBron more than 32 minutes other than personal satisfaction. Also, I think we should try to keep LeBron and Kyrie separate longer since they're each our 2 best ball distributers. Kyrie should play all minutes LeBron is off the floor and vice versa.

Like i said on the other thread, LeBron and the starters got more minutes because there were close games to win, that obviously won't happen every night, probably not even most of the time, so the average will go down on the rest of the games where the bench can control the game better.

There are games to win, i understand keeping the minutes in check, but don't sacrifice team success for that. We need wins for that HCA.

So let me get this straight...

For years, people have bitched about Brown being too systematic with lineups...

And now, we have a coach who is trying to figure out chemistry and is NOT doing things with any fixed system, and we are still bitching.

Hmmmmm...

Maybe, just maybe, we've only played two games.

There's also a difference between Earl Clark and Shawn Marion.

Actually, no, two games into the season, there isn't a difference. Chemistry just takes time, and rotations are part of that mess. There's no short cutting that, and I like that Blatt is trying all sorts of things.

The problem with Lebron's minutes has always been that there is big pressure to keep him on the court because he's just so good. You clearly reduce your chance to win when he sits on the bench for any length of time. So whatever you think the 'best' thing to do is, whatever you resolve in pre-season, he ends up at close to 40 MPG because it's really hard to take a loss when you could get a win. Plus, he wants the win too so he doesn't want to sit. The only time it's 'easy' to sit him is when your team is blowing people out.

You can clearly see this pressure in our first two games -- Blatt is already riding him hard. This team is a long way away from routinely blowing people out. Hopefully LBJ won't be playing 40+ MPG until we get there.

Plus, Marion and Miller are not looking great so far, hopefully they could improve with a little more PT.
