In three attempts at making the NBA, Miller showed some flashes of talent in preseason and summer league stints with the Charlotte Hornets in '98, Toronto Raptors in '99 and with the Sacramento Kings in 2005. While he's never made the final roster, it's not clear if a younger Miller could have been the first hip-hop star to hustle his way onto the NBA hardwood.
"We played in the ABA All-Star game together. He was very competitive and played with a passion," remembers point guard Daryl Dorsey, who played with Miller as members of the now-defunct Las Vegas Rattlers in the ABA.
Besides the gold-toothed Miller, the Rattlers lineup also featured boxer Roy Jones and James "Hollywood" Robinson, who once played for the Portland Trailblazers. "Master P was a good teammate," Dorsey said. "He was very humble and you would never think he was as rich as he was. If he was with the right team, I think he could do something in the NBA."
