Mayweather vs Pacquiao | May 2, 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I didn't watch these two girls fight either. I watched a corny ass chick flick on netflix, that probably had more action than this lame fight..

So why are you in the thread talking about a fight you didn't see?

I thought this was the fight thread? Why the fuck are we talking about people's preferences against the sport and not the fight?

I didn't know boxing was still alive. I think I am just fascinated by the fact for some reason it is.

Maybe nostalgia isn't the right word, but it just seems like people are still willing to come out in droves for boxing when there is a big event.

It's not like the sport is totally dead, as some MMA fans gleefully proclaim.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's like the "people will come" speech from "Field of Dreams." :chuckle:

I think there's a lot of boxing fans out there. Not just in the United States but definitely in Europe and Asia.

It's a world sport, and honestly, I think it has a limited following in the States because of the lack of a great American heavyweight.

But, again, I think a lot of folks harping on the fight don't watch boxing, and as several other posters have commented here in the thread, this fight attracted a lot of casual non-boxing fans hoping to see Mayweather get torn apart. They got disappointed, so, boxing as a sport sucks.

Still trying to figure out why you're posting in the thread though.. Lol.. it's a fight thread. About the fight... right? Or is this EAYOR?

I just got a multi-quote response from @gourimoko just so he could tell me I was right. Where's my golden penis?

:chuckle:

Manny is the better person, Mayweather is the better fighter.

People wanted the puncher to win and beat the woman beater, but what was expected happened and we say a boxing match controlled by an all time tactician. Boring to a casual boxing fan, but interesting to a true boxing fan.

PS. Most on here are casual fans obviously.

It's funny, I was sitting here with my wife watching the fight..

We both loved it.

Obviously though, she has a lot more invested in it than I do as a Filipino.

Manny seems like such a great guy, I couldn't help but root for them both to just have a good fight. I couldn't really root against him.

But it was a great fight, and Mayweather was just superb. The baiting, rope-a-dope (which worked), corner tactics.. I mean, he just outsmarted him round after round after round. Towards the end, he was literally toying with Pacquiao.. It was unbelievable.. He outclassed him, and I don't think anyone saw that coming.

It was a remarkable fight.

I am just posting to be an asshole.

How you feel about this clip sums up how you feel about boxing:

For boxing fans, they saw Mayweather fend off a number of Pac punches, rather easily. For casual fans, they saw one guy throwing punches while another just stood there.

Sure Mayweather hyped up a retirement but there's no way in hell that he retires before reaching 50-0.

Next year may day will be Pac vs May II and May would most likely retire 50-0.

Retirement hype is just that. A bigger money draw.

Look...

Unless you're playing the sport, sports are entertainment.

Drama and hype are a big part of it for some. Not me.

To me, I just want to see extraordinary athletic feats, some emotion and big plays under pressure.

This fight just didn't show me that tonight.

I don't want to see "extraordinary athletic feats," I want to see two men box. There are many different styles of boxing. And Mayweather and Pacquiao are two of the best at their respective styles.

I don't think you have to be a boxer to appreciate what goes into the sport and to understand it. I think people wanted to satisfy some kind of visceral response, they wanted "blood," but those folks obviously don't understand the sport.

Again, it's like folks who get bored watching great soccer matches, or get bored watching tennis.

If you don't understand a sport, you won't be excited by it. People here don't even recognize good boxing when they see it.

The fact is Mayweather is too smart of a boxer to get into the war with Pacquiao that most people wanted. I don't think that the people who are saying the fight was boring wanted to see Pacquiao win necessarily. They just wanted to see a fight ala Pacquiao v Marquez. I do get what gour is saying. Why expect a style of fight Mayweather has never given you in the past?

BECAUSE THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND ME AND I WANT TO SEE BLOOD.

Mayweather is a bad person. That's life.

But man do I get a kick out of all the ESPN talking heads going in on Mayweather for his women beating (and he deserves it) when Ray Lewis is their colleague.

Never forget, ESPN pundits, you work with a murderer.

Just had to throw that out there after I saw Beadle say she would no longer watch the WWE because Triple H is close friends with Mayweather.

Michelle, Ray Lewis stabbed a man to death, and the company you've chosen to work for also employs him.

First off, I agree with you..

But now, keep with me for a second...

Again, I will say this for the 7th time in the thread.

Mayweather threw slightly more punches than Pacquiao.
Mayweather landed WAY more punches than Pacquiao.
Mayweather won WAY more rounds than Pacquiao.

Mayweather had a statistically nominal fight. Again, only folks who don't know Mayweather would expect more punches from him.

Pacquiao said himself, "I couldn't throw more punches because he wouldn't stay still..."

That's what people wanted though. For Mayweather to stand there and get knocked out.
