Mike looks healthy and definitely will help. JJ got hot as well. The vets doing what they came here to do

How effortless was that near half court hoof? Nothing but net. He's going to shoot the lights out at the Q this season.

There is no question in my mind Miller will havegreat percentages on this team and be an asset on offense. My worry with Miller and Jones is on the defensive side of the ball, and it is hard to assess their defense in a scrimmage. I'm still very happy two lights out shooters with length are on the bench, waiting to come in and create space.

What a weird story..but maybe has some back story in why he was actually amnestied.

Of course, when lawyers get involved, stuff gets ugly. Long after Miller, Jones and Lewis figured out the game, Miller's attorney leaked news that Miller was thinking about suing the Heat. Zafar used $700,000 of Miller's money to buy the tickets and Miller wanted the Heat to give the money back. When the Heat and Miller couldn't agree on a settlement, tensions frayed even further. LeBron, of course, knew about all of this last season. - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.pjUuV4MB.dpuf

COLUMBUS, OHIO
A man who portrayed himself as a member of a wealthy Pakistani family and was often seen driving luxury cars including a Ferrari pleaded guilty Thursday to a multimillion-dollar investment scam involving three former Miami Heat players and the team itself.

The government alleges that Haider Zafar defrauded players Mike Miller, James Jones and Rashard Lewis in 2013 by promising to invest millions in various business opportunities. He also received a $1 million, three-season Heat ticket package he never paid for, according to the government.

Zafar pleaded guilty in federal court in Columbus to five wire fraud charges that each carry maximum 20-year prison sentences. That case was consolidated with another against Zafar in Columbus, where the defendant previously pleaded guilty to swindling a Washington, D.C. businessman out of $10 million between 2008 and 2010.

Zafar, currently in Franklin County Jail, pleaded guilty to the Miami Heat allegations to accept responsibility and move forward with his life, his attorney, Sam Shamanksy, said Thursday.

Testimony by an FBI agent Thursday portrayed Zafar as a man who talked big as he persuaded the Heat players to give him millions of dollars for investments that never materialized.

Zafar boasted of $35 million in a Swiss bank account and luxury residences in New York City and Miami and was often seen being chauffeured in a yellow Ferrari, a white Bentley and a black Escalade, said FBI agent David Fine.

Zafar persuaded the Miami Heat's vice president of sales to sell him a premium three-season ticket package for $1 million after explaining about his "family history and influence," including ownership of hotels, companies and other business ventures, Fine said.

Zafar convinced Miller to give him $2.6 million, Lewis to give him $4 million and Jones to give him $1.5 million, all for an investment opportunity that Zafar said would "quickly obtain a significant return." But rather than reimburse the Miami Heat or three individuals, Zafar used the money "for his personal use and benefit," Fine said.

Although the government has previously called this a $7.5 million fraud case, assistant federal prosecutor Dale Williams on Thursday referred to an overall loss of $3.5 million.

Explaining the discrepancy, Shamansky said that Zafar returned "substantial sums" to the Heat players.

Williams, without offering details, said Zafar was not who he portrayed himself to be.

Sentencing in the case involving the Washington businessman is set for November but it's likely it will be delayed and sentencing in both cases will happen later.

This guy's shooting is on point. Love it.

I was worried that we were going to get Lucious Harris'ed but my fears were wrong. The guy can still play.

Yeah, back in 2004 Luscious left the quickness behind when he moved to Cleveland. He never had great range, so he was pretty much useless that season. He tried hard on defense until he broke his sternum, but had lost so much speed that he was pretty much a liability all around. Almost the exact same story two years later with David Wesley.

Miller looks like he can play, but he is looking a bit slower & stiffer. The different here is that Miller's got three skills that should last: length, passing, and great long shooting. Defense has never been Miller's calling card, and it's not going to be any better than it was for him last year, but he's got a enough length to play SF as needed, which gives the team more options to hide him on defense.

Cavs brought in enough old guys that it's pretty safe to assume that the wheels will fall off one player this season while we wonder why he never gets off the bench. Fortunately none of the old guys are expected to be starters, there's plenty of depth at most spots, and Miller is the only one with guaranteed salary for next year, so any bad signings shouldn't be very harmful.

Can anyone put together an animated GIF of Miller and Waiters doing their handshake at the scorer's table last night? I think it was near the end of the 3rd quarter.

Waiters handshakes will be another high point of the season. He's basically our new Delonte West, minus the crazy and (hopefully) banging of LeBron's mom.

If tonight was the test of the regular season rotation, looks like Delly & Marion have pushed Mike Miller to be the 9th guy in the rotation. Looks like the right move at this point.

Blatt is known for juggling his rotations and for employing larger rotations. I was pretty surprised to see him play eight, with a handful of minutes for Miller, but Miller hasn't given him a reason to play him more minutes yet.

The Cavs bench feels pretty thin without Miller contributing. They need him, and if he can't resemble last year's production, they need Ray Allen.

Yup, agreed. We need Miller's production off the bench or it does look thin on the wing.

He could be coasting due to preseason given his injury prone tendencies, so will reserve judgment. He's also the kind of guy that can go off from the 3pt line at any moment in a big game, so he'll always have value. But on this team we need his production off the bench at the 2/3.

I'll remember the close out game for Miami's first title. Three games before that I thought miller was average to pretty poor. Close out game he dropped 7 threes and ended the game before the Thunder had a chance to get going.

That threat alone is worth it imo. Mild contributor, good teammate, with the chance to blow up at any time.

People... Don't sleep on Joe Harris if it comes down to it, kid can ball and has pretty good poise for a rookie. By no means am I saying Joe Harris will be a major factor for this team, but I am confident he could give us some good spot-minutes this season if necessary. Especially when all he's out there to do is shoot the rock and play solid D.
