CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Indians pitcher Adam Miller underwent the first stage of reconstructive surgery on his right middle finger, a procedure that doesn't guarantee he will pitch again.

Miller, once considered the top prospect in Cleveland's system, had the flexor tendon in his finger repaired during a 2½-hour operation by Dr. Tom Graham at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore. Miller will have the next stage in approximately three months, the team said Wednesday.

Miller's rehab is expected to take 6 to 9 months.

The 24-year-old, who went 15-6 in 2006 at Double-A Akron, has been limited to 25 games the past two seasons because of problems with his finger.

Wonder how much longer we wait? 6-9 months for recovery, then do we give him the ball again?

Its a shame he never made it up here. He'll always be an unban legend to me.

He'll always be an urban legend to me.

Exactly. Stick a fork in his career. I'll take a guy that can actually contribute, like Tony Sipp, at this point.

Yeah he's done-yins. Shame. Good kid.

At this point I'd be willing to slap one of these on him...

Risky surgery, but it would pay off in the end.

He's done. Oh well. Move on to the next prospect.

CLEVELAND -- Right-hander Adam Miller is hoping to be ready for Spring Training after the second of two planned surgeries on his right middle finger was successfully conducted on Tuesday.

Miller, who was shut down with pain in the finger on Feb. 27, began rehab on the finger after a two-hour procedure by Dr. Tom Graham at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, Md. Graham reconstructed the flexor tendon in Miller's finger.

If all continues to go as planned, Miller could be ready by spring 2010.

We'll see...

Dude is more done than a fat kid in dodgeball.

I'm just gonna do what every other Cleveland fan does and that's believe. I really wanna see this guy pitch, ive been waiting forever. We've been hearing about this guy for so damn long and how he was our best prospect at some time and we probably will never witness him in the majors. 2010 spring training should be exciting with all these young prospects.

I say if he is not healthy during spring training, we trade him for chash, or release him. I don't thin we need him to take up a roster space anymore.

Remember when we wouldn't trade for a Jason Bay, or Miguel Cabrera? because they wanted Adam Miller?

He's worse than Larry Hughes when it comes to getting injured.

When is he going to go away???

Exactly. Stick a fork in his career. I'll take a guy that can actually contribute, like Tony Sipp, at this point.

I think I forgot to tell this story on here:

When I was at a sales training recently, I was talking to a guy who played ball at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. At breaks he was texting back and forth on the phone with one of his college buddies. He mentioned that the guy was a pitcher who was coming up in the Tribe's organization, but someone I probably wouldn't have heard of. I told him I was a big Tribe fan and that if he had any experience at the MLB level, I'd definitely know he was.

The kid turned out to be Tony Sipp. I told the guy to send Tony a message that he's got a bunch of fans in Cleveland even if Wedge is too stupid to play him. He didn't say much in response to the Wedge comment other than "thanks lol" or something along those lines.

So there's my recent brush with greatness. :chuckles:

Miller is in uncharted territory for a pitcher, so we really don't know what is going to happen. The good news is that most of his problems have been with this finger and not the elbow. He has had some elbow trouble, but seeing as he will have about a two year layoff from consistent pitching I would have to think he will be pretty fresh after all of this. If the finger holds, Miller still has a golden arm and he is techinically 'developed'. Not trying to get hopes up, just sayin'.

Look, Miller was, hands down, one of the best prospects in baseball for quite a while. Let's not act as if the kid was just some prospect. Dude had tons and tons of potential...and showed it when he was healthy. We now have a plethora of young arms. if he can come back, awesome.
