Need some help planning my trip to the US

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So @The Oi, seeing as you're the resident NYC expert, how does this look for our NY leg (beginning Saturday 31 Jan):

- Madison Ave, 5th Avenue, Saks Avenue etc
- 3x Broadway shows
- Staten Island Ferry
- Top of the Rock
- Empire State
- Brooklyn Bridge
- Statue of Liberty
- 9/11 Memorial
- Meatpacking District
- Times Square
- Central Park
- Little Italy/SoHo
- Peter Pans Donuts, Katz's Deli, Grimaldi's etc

Anything we're missing/other recommendations?

Can't believe its almost time! Starting to feel all so surreal now.

Ha

I'm no expert. I just pack a lot of NYC into a very short, scheduled period of time.

You're hitting all the key touristy places.

I would absolutely add the Comedy Cellar to your list, if you like American comedy. There's one in Greenwich and one in southeast Manhattan if I recall correctly.

I don't see anything about bagels or pizza on there. Both are crucial. You can find both of these just walking down the street anywhere.

You should have cannoli at least once, esp if they don't have in Australia. If Peter Pan doesn't have these, I'd pick another spot to visit bc a real NY bakery should have these.

The best dining experience I've had in NY was Il Mulino up on the northern side of Manhattan. There are a million courses, huge portions, it's all gourmet and service is tremendous. However, you have to be willing to shell out about $120 for two people.

@CavsSimmy I have a buddy who owns a couple of new bars in Harlem. Every time I go visit him, he ends up taking me all the way down to Greenwich Village to eat at Barbuto. You can do NY dining very well, but this place was great both times I've been.

If you have an iPhone and don't have the Yelp! app, get it ASAP. I've learned a few things about dining in New York and it's that there's a very very wide breadth of quality.. You can get the best food you've ever had in NY.. You can also easily find some of the worst. Just use some common sense, you should be fine.

Thank you! Bagels and pizza were always going to happen ($1 slices, right?). We actually have an enormous Italian population here too (I'm half Italian myself) and as a result, I'm frequently eating cannoli's lol they're almost a staple dessert for for special ocassions in Italian-based households. But I still want to most definitely try one in NY. From what I remember, Grimaldi's for woodfire pizza and Little Italy for traditional pizza seemed the answer? Did you have any favorite locations at all?

That's great, thank you. I'll doenload Yelp! now and check it out. Any other places you'd recommend food-wise?

If you are into Jazz, you can find in NYC the famous Blue Note Club...

@CavsSimmy my only other food suggestion is to go to an Italian restaurant and order the Chicken Parm! If it's as different as the one you described (breaded chicken w/ fries), you'll love it. If you like pasta, of course.

@Soda as a self-confessed lover of the parm, I'll certainly have to give it a try. If not for nothing but the ability to compare the two - should be interesting. And yes, I'm a big pasta lover! Growing up in a half Italian, half Greek Australian household, you learn to love everything from pizza and pasta to lamb souvlaki!

Never been to Grimaldi's. Can't remember the names of the pizza places I've been to as they've always been on the way to other places and stepped in whenever I got hungry.

My wife and I have a no cab rule when we're in Manhattan. We like to walk everywhere we go which makes the city experience that much better. You see more, interact with more people and get a much better feel for the city. Plus you burn off all the pizza and cream cheese.

Thanks, bud. We're working with 4 days and were thinking that if we don't take the subway, we may run out of time to get everything done? Thoughts?

Never been out of Manhattan. If you plan to leav, I am tapping out! If you stay, cab and sub are both the ways to go.

Or he could smoke some of the souvenir crack he bought on the corner of E. 99th in Cleveland and fly his way around. How are the jails in Manhattan?

You will be in new york following this huge storm? Walking may be necessary, but i recommend the subway. it takes you every where you want to be..

I personally was dissapointed with Grimaldi's, and my son who lived there last summer thought it was pure hype. Upper west side breakfast at Alices tea cup, fresh scones, poached eggs, crazy good. Your partner will love it. Close to the museum in central park. I had heard that there is a train ride to some cliffs over the ocean from the museum.. We did not have time to do it, but was told its pretty cool.

momo fuko is a noodle bar which was on 171 st in east village 4.5 stars on 2000 reviews on yelp... My wife says it was phenomonal.. There are more locations, but some have moved a few times so double check on yelp... House of small wonder in brooklyn is crazy and tasty. Has a live tree growing through the restaraunt!

Dont be afraid to adventure. Yelp is pretty effective in NYC as the market is really comptetive.

Great friggin call on Momo Fuku. In addition to the restaurant, there is a bakery that's part of that chain called Milk Bar that makes some amaaaaaazing truffles and cookies.

There's a location not far from the Rock and Theater district.
