New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Have you ever read The Force by Don Winslow? The general plot setup is along similar lines to The Shield, and apparently the guy who did Logan is adapting it to a film.

I have not, but I liked Savages by him so will consider checking it out.

Wire isn't that good

Writing is often kinda bad, a lot of bad acting. I don't know why it gets this much acclaim. I think sons of anarchy (esp after important people started dying) was better frankly and that wouldn't make my top 5.

How far are you into it?

I'm not getting past s2e1

I can only try so many times for practicalitys sake. Dozen times means I'm not into it.

Well, all I can say is you're missing out, because seasons two through four is about as good as television gets.

Like I said earlier, season two can be a challenge the first time. I hated it early on the first time. It gets better, and it's now my favorite season. Just power through the first few episodes to get to the good stuff.

So he's basically reached a different stratosphere with his Cartel trilogy and The Force. Both are going to be big movies, but the Cartel trilogy is as good as it gets. It'll probably go down as the definitive fiction of the Drug War for future generations.

This is your worst take, man. You'd never type that if you watched a few seasons. Lot of shows don't really catch you until later on. This is that. And everything that was kind of boring gets much better after you finish it and reflect on the whole picture.

I admit that season 2 was tough for me at first. Ziggy is still my least favorite character in the whole show. But the Sobotkas are so great otherwise.

Yeah Ziggy kind of sucks but Frank and Nicky are two of the best characters on the show.

And yeah I think it's one of those shows you appreciate so much more the second time through.

So after re-watching The Wire, the best show of all time, instead of catching up on the three dozen shows I'm behind on, my dumb ass decided to start re-watching The Shield, the second best show of all time.

It's still pretty fucking good. Season one is a bit of a slog at times, but holy shit season two doesn't fuck around. Can't wait until seasons four and five.

best TV show of all time? Game of Thrones

I never finished the wire, I know I watched the first two seasons. I don't even remember how far after that.

Game of Thrones is unranked until it finishes. Impossible to know how good a show is while it's still running. What if the ending absolutely sucks?

Not saying it will, nor do I think it will, but if it did, that would drastically change how I felt about the series as a whole, Lost-style.

As for The Wire, it's borderline required viewing. Yes, it can be slow, and the first two seasons are difficult the first time through, but it's generally listed as the best show ever by most critics and fans for a reason. It's fucking phenomenal, and it's probably the best show as far as re-watching goes too.

Sure, we have to see how it ends, but the last season to set it up was incredibly good. And it is also very rewatchable, I noticed so many details I previously missed when I watched it again a year or so ago.

The one thing that bothered me was how quick they were traveling all over the map when previous seasons travel was extremely slow. Some of the decision making was bonkers too.
Still, i've enjoyed the show every step of the way. There wasn't many points where I was bored.

I listen to the audio books of game of thrones and George R R Martin is extremely detailed in everything he writes. Adapting it to a script had to be extremely easy. It's pretty clear when Benioff and Weiss didn't have the books to write from, that the detail and pace changed for the show. They had to make it up almost from scratch, whatever conversations and notes Martin gave wasn't going to be anywhere close to the books.
