2 things:

-Why is George Lopez in a smurf movie?

'Super 8' IS 'Cloverfield' Prequel! First Details Revealed!!

Update: Our sources tell us J.J. Abrams is actually directing this time around, although nothing is confirmed. Earlier today news broke about a top secret trailer for a new J.J. Abrams project entitled Super 8, which would premiere in front of Iron Man 2 this coming weekend. No other details were available at the time. An update at Vulture CONFIRMS that Super 8 is in fact a quasi-prequel to the smash-hit viral monster movie Cloverfield!! "Our sources...say that Super 8 is absolutely connected to 2008's Cloverfield (possibly a prequel, but not a sequel)." They continue with the plot details, which sound awesome. "Insiders familiar with the trailer tell us that it shows a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties. When they develop the film, they notice that there's an alien creature in the frame." OMFG. To put the icing on the cake, this sounds exactly like the Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration announced back on April 28th. Did I say OMFG?! Have your say below.

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/x-men-first-class-officially-has-its-kick-ass-director-9901

It's now official, Matthew Vaughn has signed on to direct X-Men: First Class.

Here's the official press release from Fox:

BRYAN SINGER AND MATTHEW VAUGHN UNITE FOR X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
Twentieth Century Fox will release film on June 3, 2011

"Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn will helm X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, a new chapter in Twentieth Century Fox’s blockbuster series of films based on the Marvel Comics.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS begins production this summer for a June 3, 2011 release. Bryan Singer, who conceived the story for FIRST CLASS and directed the original “X-Men” and its sequel “X2,” is producing along with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

“I’ve been a fan of Matthew’s since LAYER CAKE,” said Singer. “He has a deft hand with multiple characters and storylines, and a great love of the X-Men universe. I feel the combination of this story and his vision will make for an exciting and original X-Men film.”
Added Twentieth Century Fox president of production, Emma Watts: “X-Men: First Class presents an exciting opportunity to further explore the history and relationships of these beloved characters. Matthew’s combination of talent, verve and vision is perfectly suited to the task.”

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known.

FOX is going to keep raping the X-Men franchise....sigh....

JJ Abrams: "Trailer has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield"

**UPDATE**

Vulture has another update, this time from J.J. himself. And the movie has nothing to do with Cloverfield:

Yesterday, reliable sources told Vulture that Super 8 — J.J. Abrams's top-secret new movie whose clandestine trailer (read about its contents here!) hits theaters this weekend attached to Iron Man 2 — is "absolutely connected to 2008's Cloverfield," though it's not explicitly a sequel. (Hitfix's Drew McWeeny had heard something similar.) At last night's 2010 Time 100 Gala at the Time Warner Center, though, a cagey Abrams insisted otherwise.

"You have to check [out the trailer]," he told us. "But it has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield, despite your expert reporting." So what does it have to do with? "I won’t be able to tell you until it’s done," he said. So to clarify: Super 8 — another virally marketed Abrams-produced movie featuring otherworldly creatures captured on film by amateur cinematographers — will be totally unconnected to Cloverfield.

We asked if 8's trailer was really sent to theaters in canisters requiring special codes to open. "That is correct," Abrams told us. Certainly such conspicuous security measures only invite the kind of scrutiny that can ruin carefully planned surprises, though, right? "I don’t know if it would matter with you guys," he said, laughing. "I don’t think it matters." Is there a better way to keep secret monster movies under wraps? "I'm working on it," he told us before returning to his meal.

Losers DVD screener is online, about to watch it because I am bored.

Super 8 Trailer revealed

I just got back from the screening of Iron Man 2, the review will be up a little later, but what I could not wait to write about is the trailer for J.J. Abrams Super 8 movie. I’ll try to describe it as best I can remember. So here we go.

(spoiler text)

The trailer starts with a black screen, that says Steven Spielberg is the producer. Then a small written narrative begins that reads something like this. “In 1970 Area 51 was closed down and everything was shipped to an undisclosed location in Ohio”. Then you see a train carrying lots of cargo loads. Cut to a car driving down the road that jumps up on the tracks and heads straight toward the train. Cut to black screen and then the words “From Director J.J. Abrams”. Then back to the train and car colliding into each other, the the train derails, the camera slowly zooms in on one of the tipped over cargo cars of the derailed train, then something is punching on the walls inside the train cart trying to escape. Cut to black screen and then the title ”Super 8“.

So it does not look like a Cloverfield sequel but it’s definitely a monster film and it seems to be the Abrams/Spielberg film that’s been hinted about the last week or so.

Hopefully a trailer comes online soon because it really is a great teaser. I definitely want more.

I am up for a good Aread 51 alien feature, bring that shit on.

Doesn't sound like Area 51, more like Wright Patterson Air force Base Hanger 18
