Official Rock / Indie / Alternate Music Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hmmm, obviously rock, that's where I usually go to for my depressing music. Indie rock is usually where its at for that. But any would do. The song I posted above is a pretty good indicator where I'm looking to go for this. I've already exhausted all of the music I know of I believe.

I mean, the reason I ask is because thats actually a pretty upbeat song that you posted (rhythm etc).. are you looking at lyrics primarily? This is like stadium type rock, U2 made famous.. Coldplay followed.. other bands followed too obviously.kings of Leon.. Like reverb on the guitar with continuous buildup and multi layers.. is that accurate?

Lyrically though...man it hits ya. It could be that I suppose. Was just listening to some Band of Horses too. I'm all over right now haha.

Definitely pinpointed the sound of the band, unfortunately its not one I can give any suggestions for. I mean, i can give you depressing music, but its depressing in tone and a lot more empty than what you seem to be in the mood for. i wanna give something, so these may not fit into what youre looking for, but its the best I got

Radiohead- All i need (and basically anything off of Hail to the Thief or Kid A)
Yael Naim - Lonely
Glen Hansard - All the Way Down
Bruno Mars - TALKING TO THE MOON (ESPECIALLY), If I knew, When I was your Man have all literally made me cry
Sia - Soon We'll Be Found, Breathe Me, Dont bring me Down

Lemme know if I hit on any

Currently obsessed with this song and band. And yes, I know I'm a couple years late on this.

This is incredible. Do they have any other songs like this?

They have some pretty damn good songs (this one being my favorite). Look them up on Spotify and check them out.

Doing it right now actually. Any others that particularly stick out?

Hmm I would have to look (currently on my phone). I've only started listening to them over the weekend. I can say I do like their first album (the one that song is on). And the acoustic version is pretty good too.

Good God... The band DIIV is fucking awesome.

You're Welcome:

It's crazy how some songs can INSTANTLY trigger a specific memory; when DaveK mentioned Sia's "Breathe Me" that is exactly what I did. The song is great, but I remember it being the music to the final scene of the series finale of Six Feet Under. My wife bawls when we watched that scene, and it was a fitting finale for an amazing series.

Also, here are a bunch of kids (like ten years old) playing 'Pull Me Under' by Dream Theater. The vocals are a bit annoying, but it's ridiculous that these little kids are nailing the instrumental parts of this long-ass song.

The whole 'song brings up a memory or period of time' and 'smell brings up a thought of a person' thing is called 'anchoring'.. We strongly associate smell and music to stuff like that, its pretty common.

Daft punk are sick as fuckkkk. I think Neptunes are generally overrated but that song is hawtsawce. Lapdance is a classic too

Funny you mention 'anchoring', and smell in particular; my wife just started working at a place where she sells trademark scent systems to various businesses. I thought it was kind of a joke of a company, but they make a ton of profit. Plus, my wife is now the only person in central FL and she's been getting interest calls already. The commission scale looks pretty attainable, hopefully she can do well enough I can finally stop my part-time gig.

Anyways, back on topic....

The only Daft Punk song I can remember hearing is for the IM/WarMachine fight scene on the Iron Man 2 soundtrack, the mash-up with ACDC etc. Another strange thing was I was skimming the radio channels in my truck and stopped at what I thought was a new station. There was some pretty good hard rock/guitar-driven stuff on there; I'm a pretty big fan of heavy stuff, with solid musicianship, and melodic vocals. After enjoying the music on a couple occasions, I finally heard the station and googled it; it was a fucking positive rock station, a sister station of the big religious station in the area! I was like LOL WTF since I am not the most religious person around; however, there wasn't any kind of preaching by the DJs so I kept listening. Some pretty decent groups on that station, and they aren't all Styper-esque in their lyrics.....
