Official Summer 2022 Offseason discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Arenas was out of the league before Beal was drafted. As it is, I would give John Wall and Russ the credit for those playoff runs. Beal is fine as a secondary guy but has flopped as a primary unlike Wall or Russ
Sorry….I wrote too quickly. I meant Wall. And not being a primary scorer doesn’t not limit his “leadership skills” or how he can positively impact young players.
The past six seasons Beal has averaged 23,22, 25, 30, 31 and last year 23 points a game while shooting no less than 45% from the field. Over the past six years his worse three point percentage was 30 (last year) with his best being 40%. This guy has been a productive player throughout his career! And nobody that knows this game can say he couldn’t help this team tremendously.

So last year was the worst year of that stretch, he's getting older, and makes a ton of money. I'd bet that he's on the decline.

You did not answer my initial question...what about Bradley Beal makes you think that he's a locker room leader, or that this team needs one of those anyway?

At this moment in time, Beal is a volume scorer who doesn't play much defense and whose jumpshot appears to be fleeting. I'm not interested in giving up premium assets for him for this team.

Volume shooter??? Like I said He shot 45% from the field last year….Steph Curry shot 46% so what does that make Curry? Steph Curry doesn’t play much defense either.
What made him a leader is that he played hard every game (even when he was hurt until they had to shut him down) and that’s what a leader does!
And if I have to explain to why this team doesn’t have (and needs a locker room leader) then it’s clear you haven’t been watching this Cavalier team.

I've watched every game. Your habit of saying, "Here's what I think, and if you disagree, you don't watch," is silly. I saw Darius Garland blossom into the organization's leader last season. The Wizards had public locker room problems last season. The Cavs did not.

Curry's efficiency is much higher than Beal's, largely because of the difference in their ability from beyond the arc. Yes, Beal is a volume scorer. His usage rate is very, very high over the past few seasons. It's logical to think he would not see the same rate on a good team with other all-star players, especially ones as ball-dominant as Garland already is.

Curry is a point guard, which Beal is not. Curry has been paired with great defenders his entire career, particularly prime Klay Thompson. My point about Beal's defense is specifically in regard to his fit with Garland, who is also not good defensively. I don't want to play two poor defenders at both guard spots every night.

DG blossomed into a great PG but not a leader. It showed in the play in game. Watch DG in the huddle during timeouts. He’s sitting taking stuff in (which is great) but he is not interacting with teammates pointing out things that need to improve/happen on the court. Even on the court he lacks that CP3 “attitude” that makes sure everybody is where they are supposed to be on the floor. A shooter/scorer like Beal would make DG a much better PG. My two points were Beal is the type of player this team needs….and unless the #14 pick turns into that player the Cavs aren’t getting that type of player unless it’s through a trade. No top tier FA SG/Wing is coming here. It has to be via trade.
Beal could possibly be had.

This sounds like something Sexton can accomplish over the next 6 seasons, and most of the board thinks its only worth $15 million, :chuckle:

Well I mean Beal has absolutely proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, he's not worth anything close to what he's getting paid.

Took Beal 5 seasons to get past 4.4 assists
Beal’s job wasn’t to be a distributor. His job was to score!
And is he worth the max deal? Probably not! But to HIS team he is! There are a lot of max contract players that aren’t worth the big $$$ but their value to their team makes them worth it. Zion isn’t worth a max deal but he’s going to get it.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!

There are many ways to lead. CP3 is really good but he micromanages the hell out of the game and that can grate on players. There is a reason he has been bouncing around a bit the last few years.

Beal has not showed leadership unless you count taking a lot of bad midrange shots as leadership

But you can’t deny that CP3’s ability to get the ball into his teammates hand in the best possible spot on the where they can do something positive with it.
And the articles I have read says the Wiz’ locker room looks up to Beal.

Agreed Beal isn't a beauty to me. Sexton can do what Beal can cheaper and still has upside

Absolutely NOT!!!! Sexton doesn’t come close to the shooter that Beal is! Beal can take you off the dribble, rise and pull up with a defender in his face! Sexton is not that type of player. And if he were that type of player the Cavs wouldn’t be trying to low ball him salary wise! Sexton is good at one thing (offensively) and that’s getting to the rim. But are correct he is a cheaper version.
At some point, people….we have to stop penny pinching if you want to bring in a real veteran that will give us what we need on this team (shooting/athleticism). Those type of impact players don’t come cheap.

Sexton just spent 9 months shooting. Watch what happens.

From where are you getting that? Sexton missed last season. But if you compare Beal last season to Sexton from 20-21, Sexton had a higher FG%, a higher 3 pt. %, and a higher TS%.

The Bradley Beal you have in your head does not match the Bradley Beal who has actually been playing basketball.

If we're going to bring in an offense-first shooting guard rather than a wing with length, he has to be a high level shooter from the outside, and Beal just isn't. He hasn't shot above 35% from 3pt. since the 2017-18 season. Sexton was 37% or above each of his first three seasons in the league.
