COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)—Stan Drayton, who has been an assistant at nine colleges, is Ohio State’s new wide receivers coach.

Coach Jim Tressel announced the hiring on Thursday.

Drayton replaces Darrell Hazell who recently took the head coaching job at Kent State.

Drayton served as Florida’s running backs coach and recruiting coordinator last season. The Ohio native also served as Florida’s running backs coach from 2005-07, and held the same position at SEC schools Tennessee (2008) and Mississippi State (2004).

He also has coached at Syracuse (2009), Bowling Green (2000), Villanova (1996-2000), Pennsylvania (1995), Eastern Michigan (1994) and his alma mater, Allegheny (1993). From 2001-03, he was an assistant special teams coach for the Green Bay Packers.

Seems promising, i mean how could you go wrong with some guy who was an assistant special teams coach?

Sounds like a solid recruiter.

Originally from the Cleveland area (John Marshall High School), so I'd imagine he knows the area somewhat well.

His special teams background actually makes me like him a bit more, especially when I think about the Wisconsin and Miami games.

Hopefully he brings JuJuan Story with him, currently committed to Florida.

He's absolutely a solid recruiter. Look at the guys he was able to pull in '06 and '07. The in-roads he's made in arguably the most fertile state for HS football talent as well as his Ohio roots will surely prove to be a tremendous asset. I'm hoping we can pull Story as well, but my gut says he sticks with the Gators.

Walker, Story and Curtis Grant would be a tremendous finish.

Even 2 of 3 would be incredible.

Terrific class once again by Tressel and company.

I thought his hire was making Story less likely to come? I hope he can bring him but I was reading there were reports Story was concerned with us hiring someone who has never been a WR coach?

@PDBuckeyes: JaJuan Story says on Drayton to #OSU "I don't get why a RB coach is gonna coach WRs." #UF in home visit today, #OSU tomorrow

@PD Buckeyes: RT @CaseyGoldstein: Ja'juan Story just told me Stan Drayton moving to Ohio State helped the #Gators but hasn't eliminated the #Buckeyes.

@PDBuckeyes: She would know RT @LauraMcKeeman: @PDBuckeyes Drayton won't affect Story's decision IMO. He likes both #OhioState and #UF for other reasons

So who knows...seems to be conflicting reports on what this kid is really thinking. Hopefully we can snag him from UF since Urban left them high and dry.
