With the 7th pick in the 2016 Draft the San Francisco 49ers select...

Jared Goff - QB - California

upload_2016-3-29_23-41-35.png

Justification
A pick that should shock no one: the 49ers grab the player at the top of their board and their new face of the franchise (a homegrown one at that) all in one pick. There were offers to move up, and to move back, but the first round played out perfectly for San Fran to get THEIR guy. Colin Kaepernick was moved to Buffalo for a 3rd round pick leaving Blaine Gabbert as the starting QB... Blaine Gabbert. Obviously, that shit wasn't going to fly. The plan all along was to sit back and grab one of Goff or Wentz, with an edge to Goff. After the Browns took Wentz there was a little bit of worry that the Cowboys might snag Goff to be the heir apparent franchise QB to Romo, especially since their owner AZ_ loves Goff like Al Davis loves speed. Worst case? Take one of Ramsey/Tunsil/Jack/Bosa, whoever slipped, and look at moving up for Paxton Lynch. In the end, it all worked out. Chip Kelly pushed hard for consideration of DeForest Buckner, who he recruited to Oregon, but this was a no brainer.

Measurables:
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 215 lbs
Arm Length: 32 3/4"
Hands: 9"
40 Yd Dash: 4.82 sec
Vertical: 27 inches
Broad Jump: 110 inches
Analysis
Strengths

Quality arm. Makes all the throws and can sling the deep out with velocity and accuracy. Clean release and snaps throws off with flick of the wrist. Drives hips through his release for extra heat. Pocket mobility and poise showed improvement from 2014 to 2015. Maintains proper footwork and readiness to throw as he slides inside the pocket. Speeds up internal clock when he feels pressure or recognizes blitz. Pocket climber. Able to run out of trouble rather than into it. Looks the part of a confident, first round quarterback when working from a clean pocket. Sells his play fakes with purpose and draws linebackers forward. Has learned to expedite his throws from off-balance angles due to pocket pressure. Will throw receivers open in tight quarters. Has excellent trajectory and pillowy soft touch on touch throws down the field that give receivers a chance to make plays. Showed substantial growth with his willingness to attack intermediate areas of the field and did so with accuracy and relative success. Completed an impressive 43.8 percent of his deep throws. Competes on third and long seeking out first downs over check downs.

Weaknesses
Hits a rough patch with accuracy from time to time. Sails throws over intended targets especially early in games. Has spots where he makes receivers work too hard on easy throws. Spent 99.8 percent of his pass snaps from pistol or shotgun this season. Will likely need to orient himself with NFL footwork from under center. Rhythm passer who benefited from the uptempo and "quick game" of Cal's Bear Raid offense. Has to learn fine line between getting ball out and rushing throws. Able to escape pocket, but isn't a proven finisher when on the move. Fumbled the ball 24 times over the last three years losing 11. Sacked 81 times over three years. Internal clock and poise will need to be monitored closely. Several of his interceptions came when he failed to read zone defenders underneath drifting up to challenge the throw.

NFL Comparison
Matt Ryan

Bottom Line
While Goff is a little leaner in the lower body than teams might like, he has good size, an NFL arm, advanced pocket mobility and the field demeanor of a franchise quarterback. His accuracy and decision making will suffer from occasional lapses, but he displays the tools to become a good starting quarterback with time.

With the 8th pick in the 2016 Draft the Philadelphia Eagles select...

Ronnie Stanley - OT- Notre Dame

justification
: In what may be viewed as a surprise pick, I simply refused to let a 34 year old Jason Peters and a good but not great Lane Johnson keep me from picking what I believe is the best player available. In many non-Tunsil years Stanley is the first tackle off the board, and a top 5 pick, so the Eagles happily grab their left tackle of the future while allowing Lane Johnson to stay on the right side. Stanley is great in open space, and is an easy plug with a good chance of being a top tier tackle for a long time in this league. Might not be the sexy pick, but should be a staple on the line for the next decade.

My novice scouting report:
Plays great in space. Screens, second level blocking, peeling off blocks. This guy looks very fluid out there. I think he's an underrated run blocker because of how well he plays in space. He isn't going to drive a 7 technique into the dirt 7 yards down the field, but his position blocking and ability to get to the second level and engage and maintain with linebackers in space will make him an above average run blocker. Kind of like how Thomas is never pancaking fools out there, but is always grading out positively as a run blocker. He is athletic in space and has high awareness. That said I think that Stanley does have a bit of a mean streak to him that gets underplayed because of how good of a pass blocker he is. It's an inconsistent mean streak, and his natural strength isn't a road grader, but he has shown glimpses.

But where he is going to make his money is on passing downs. The guy is great in protection. Great balance, great hands. He is just a damn wall out there. Put him on and island on the left side and don't even worry about it for the rest of the game. Johnson is a good tackle, but Stanley has all-pro potential in my opinion. And I'm just not passing on all-pro potential with a high floor at 8.

I picked this video because you guys can multi task by watching him while watching the Buckeyes :)

Also I don't like highlight videos, and he played great in this game.

Damn, did I miss that he got a hand massage recently?

Whether those hands are 9 or 9.25... they're still big enough to throw a football AND hold a Burger King whopper better than Blaine Gabbert.

With the 9th pick in the draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

The Buccaneers were aiming to get a corner here, but when Buckner fell in their laps, they could t say no.

From PFF:

"Buckner ended the season as the highest-graded interior defender in the nation — some distance clear of Sheldon Day in second — and his +73.0 is the highest figure we have seen across two years, as he beat Henry Anderson and Leonard Williams from last season out of sight.

We hear about players so good they broke the scale, and if you take a look at Buckner’s game-by-game grades this past season we see that he literally broke the PFF scale when he faced Georgia State.

Scouts may find things to nitpick over when it comes to his game, but the bottom line is there has been no more productive player in college football in 2015p

What he does well:
In short, everything. Buckner posted 67 total defensive pressures over the season which was nine more than any other interior player, and 17 more than Leonard Williams managed a year ago. Even when you add edge rushers to the mix that figure is still only bettered by three players this season, one of whom is Bosa.

That’s not to say Buckner doesn’t have that quick-impact pressure in his arsenal. Take a look at this move he pulls on TCU’s left guard in the bowl game this season:

Buckner has the kind of speed and quick power at the line he is often accused of lacking, enough to leave offensive linemen swinging at nothing as he slips past them. He isn’t necessarily the most fluid and natural athlete, but he has the ability to beat players quickly and cause problems.

He also has the raw power and brute force to go right through them. Take a look at what he does to Washington’s right guard for this sack:

This gets heralded as the one thing Buckner does well, or his greatest strength, but only 11 of his 67 pressures this season were bulrushes."

The Buccaneers want to get to the quarterback, and many compare this kid to Calais Campbell of Arizona.

@Snowblind and the NY Giants are on the clock.

I went into this morning excited because Ronnie Stanley and DeForest Buckner were still on the board, then the last two picks felt like two consecutive kicks to the scrote. Not a good day for the Chicago Bears.

I offered to move down :)

To be honest I wasn't expecting Stanley to make it to 8, and I just couldn't pass if I stayed at 8. He is too dreamy :kekekegay:
also the shortcut for that emoji is : kekekegay : lmao

With the 10th pick... the New Jersey Generals select...

What a high risk, high reward move for the Generals. Flutie doesn't play in a traditional offense and can't see over the line. However, he became a media darling with his miraculous "Hail Mary" pass to beat Miami. Let's talk about this unorthodox move with owner Donald Trump:

i

"Is that Megyn Kelly I smell? No? Okay, well I can stay and answer a few questions. Doug Flutie will be a Hall of Fame caliber quarterback and a huge personality that will keep the New Jersey Generals financially profitable for decades. Every man, woman and child in America - assuming they aren't a soccer-crazed Central American immigrant - will chant Doug Flutie's name in championship after championship. I also hear he is one hell of a dancer. I'm Donald Trump, and I'm never wrong."
