With the 25th pick in the 2019 RCF Mock Draft the Philadelphia Eagles select...

Josh Jacobs, Running Back, Alabama

Why: The Eagles let Jay Ajayi walk, and while they got some good production from their three-headed committee of Josh Adams, Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement, a bell-cow back would do wonders for Carson Wentz. Josh Jacobs is a tough do-it-all back who can take the ball between the tackles, catch passes and even block.

Establishing the run will help out Wentz, since he's coming back from injury. This should take pressure off of him and help out the offense. Jacobs will help getting the run game going in multiple sets and let the play action game take off too.

Height: 5' 10" | Weight: 220 pounds

Jacobs has the blend of speed and power you look for in an early-down workhorse. He’s also a natural as a pass-catcher, solid in the screen game and showing the ability to pluck it away from his frame like a receiver when working downfield. He logged only 299 touches in his three seasons at Alabama—there’s plenty of tread left on the tires—though a workhorse load could be an adjustment after just one 20-carry game in his collegiate career.

(via pff)
Jacobs forced 33 missed tackles on 121 carries, averaging a missed tackle forced once every 3.7 rushing attempts. That ranks seventh in this draft class among running backs with at least 100 carries. He also ranks seventh in the class with a PFF elusive rating of 109.8 and with an average of 4.07 yards after contact per carry. However, it’s his work and skillset in the passing game which really makes him appealing to teams in the NFL.

Jacobs saw just 56 targets in his three seasons at Alabama but that doesn’t tell the whole story. When he was used in the passing game, he was dynamic, averaging 12.4 yards per catch and forcing 21 missed tackles from 48 receptions. He was also consistent with just three drops over that span.

Those missed tackle numbers showcase just how difficult he can be to bring down in the open field, something which Jacobs has put on display since he first saw the field for Alabama back in 2016. One play that stands out at this time was this play against Mississippi State. On 1st & 10 with 10:21 left in the second quarter, he catches the pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts in the flat and begins to take it upfield. He effortlessly made the defenders miss with just two quick cuts.

He showcased that ability again on a 33-yard touchdown against Auburn in the Iron Bowl in 2018, this time making the reception downfield. Once the ball was in his hands though, he was just as tough to bring down as he was when he caught the ball in the flat. After shrugging off two tacklers, he cuts by another and is in the end zone.

In a mock draft, we have orchestrated the most Daniel Snyder move in the history of Daniel Snyder.
Well, #15 for the injured 30 year-old AJ Green makes #19 for Stafford look like a complete bargain. I'm off the hook!

To be fair, AJG should be at full health this summer. Washington isn't worried about his toe injury. And, he's arguably the best receiver in that second tier (after Nuk, OBJ, AB, Julio, Tyreek).

Washington's plan on offense is to build the offensive line to run the ball down people's throats with Guice, AD and Chris Thompson. Then let Case Keenum do the only thing Case Keenum does well (play action). We needed a number one to let Paul Richardson settle in as a number two. After striking out on trades for AB and Kenny Golladay, AJ Green was the one we hit.

I think in real life Washington ends up with DK Metcalf at #15. I love the guy if you just ask him to run big-man routes (slant, post, go) like the Lions utilized Calvin Johnson and the Browns utilized Josh Gordon (the two players Metcalf reminds me of).

With the 24th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select...

Noah Fant, Tight End, IOWA

usatsi_11209582-e1551544483800.jpg

Why Fant:

While the teams secondary is still largely a matter that needs to be addressed, the news of Jared Cook likely signing with the New Orleans Saints leaves a large hole on offense and at the 24th pick Fants value is too great to overlook. Though he doesn't have teammate TJ. Hockensons brutal Point-Of-Attack blocking, Fant makes up for it with truly transcendant athletic traits and should be able to contribute from day one and eventually turn into a vicious weapon in the passing game.

Also, and I can't stress this enough, fuck the Patriots.

Overview:

- Height: 6'4''

- Weight: 249 lbs

- Arms: 33 1/2''

- 40 Time: 4.5

- Vert: 39.5''

- broad jump: 127''

Route Running

- Runs a pretty diverse tree. Understands how to use his feet to create space, will toe drag on speed cuts, etc. Sets up his breaks well with angular stems to create additional space. Deep cross, seam route, fade, out, stop pattern and curl were all present on his film.

Hands

- Cradles the football softly away from the body. Has made several late adjustments to the ball and still managed to successfully secure the catch. High point skills and ability in contested situations to squeeze the ball are top shelf as well.

Versatility

- No limits as a receiver. Can run past you, jump over you, run through you...nightmare to cover and defend as a receiver. Has been moved all over the offensive set: flexed wide, played from in-line and put in the backfield to be put in motion and have momentum at the snap.

Contested Catch Ability

- Length is problematic for defenders when paired with his leaping ability and ball skills, doesn't leave a lot of room for defenders to play through him and attack the football. Instead forces defense to undercut all together or play through the body, where he braces for contact well.

Run After Catch Ability

- Dynamic, explosive burst after the catch. He's run away from safeties and corners, plays in a different gear than other TEs. Second gear is paired with good foot quickness and ability to side-step a tackler. Does not, however, have a ton of creativity to force false steps by tacklers.

Power At POA

- Is never going to be the kind of player to collapse and create a lot of space off the edge with his hand in the dirt. Has much more success as a space blocker on the second level or stepping down on seal blocks from the slot. Lacks lower half mass.

Competitive Toughness

- Functional strength isn't especially high, particularly in head up situations. Athletic ability allows for constant adjustments and can at times work to out-leverage opponents. Pretty sturdy at the catch point and again on his route stems to run through contact.

Flexibility

- One of the most free moving athletes I've seen in quite some time. Pretty special levels of body control and ability to disassociate his upper and lower halves to play with speed and still properly address the football at the catch point.

Balance

- Looks like a wide receiver on his route stems and at the top of patterns, total control. Absorbs contact running down the field well and isn't going to be uprooted or bumped out of his trajectory. Will over-compensate and lean as a blocker vs. heavier defenders.

Football Intelligence

- Polished, impressive player. Has understanding of angles and how to use them advantageously and create extra room prior to his breaks. Has natural sense for locating the football and doesn't compromise his routes or leverage over DBs by peeking too early.

BEST TRAIT - RAC Ability

WORST TRAIT - Power at POA

BEST FILM - Ohio State (2017)

WORST FILM - Penn State (2018)

RED FLAGS - None

Noah Fant has the physical skills and receiving chops to be the next big thing at the TE position in the NFL. The league has never been friendlier to flex targets and Fant runs like a receiver and leaps like a basketball pro. Fant is a nightmare in space and will excel in a vertical passing offense that can implement him in the middle of the field. With soft hands and elite athletic ability, Fant should be a volume target at the NFL level and will have an impact fairly early into his pro career.

Good pick (26, not 24, so there's no confusion), I have to guess that Fant's who BB wanted to trade up for. If so, he would have had to make a better offer, IMO.

I was literally about to post the Fant pick right as I got the trade request, so I probably would've drafted him anyway.

Still though, sticking to the Pats is almost as rewarding in itself.
