On The Clock: 2020 RCF NFL Mock Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damn would have been a STEAL!

With the 98th pick of the 2020 RCF NFL COVID Mock Draft,

The New England Patriots select....

Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton

Adam-Trautman-1068x571.jpg

HEIGHT 6' 5"
WEIGHT 255 lbs
ARMS 32 5/8”
HANDS 9 1/2”

Overview
Right now, Trautman is a big, pass-catching tight end who needs to prove he can transition from his level of competition and handle bigger, more physical coverage dogging him around the field. He has a solid athletic profile, but his technique as a blocker will need to be upgraded as teams will likely expect him to play in-line due to his size. He's a talented pass-catcher with Day 3 potential, and good upside to work with.

Strengths
  • Heavily targeted and highly productive
  • Presents big target for his quarterback
  • Gets to top speed quickly for a big tight end
  • Frame and demeanor to fight through draping coverage
  • Stems defenders out of his route breaks and accelerates out of breaks
  • Uses body positioning to create late catch space
  • Toughness to consistently catch through contact
  • Ball adjustments come naturally to him
  • Former hooper with timing to win high-point catches
Weaknesses
  • benefited from physical mismatches against his competition level
  • Allowed to run wild with loads of free releases
  • Step counter who ran limited route tree
  • Nothing special after the catch
  • Gears down motor once initial route bears no fruit
  • Awkward three-point impedes power potential firing into contact
  • Initial movements as run blocker out of stance are manic
  • Will need to correct hand placement at the point of attack

With the 99th pick, The New York Football Gettleman's select (as long as he wasn't chosen):

Gabriel Davis, WR, UCF

6'2"
215lbs
4.5 40 yard dash

Gabriel-Davis-1024x683.jpg

One of my personal sleepers I'd like to see the Browns take if they don't draft a WR high.

A first-team All-American at the University of Central Florida, Davis didn’t play against elite-level talent, but he did destroy his competition. Davis’s 2019 numbers are not be ignored—he finished his final season at UCF with 72 receptions, 1,241 yards, and 12 touchdowns.

In a normal year a player like Gabriel Davis could push for the second day of the draft. That seems unlikely with so much talent in this class, and a smart team with a plan on how to maximize his skillset and develop him could really benefit.

New England* and @Soda are on the clock!

The Chicago Bears have been awarded Saadiq Charles, OL, LSU

Height: 6'4
Weight: 321
Arms: 33
Hands: 10

LSU's left tackle is a masterful technician who immediately helps one of the left side nightmares for the Bears. He was also specifically selected because @SixPACK can't spell his name correctly. Not in a million years.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyy! AJ TERRELL was spelled incorrectly in this thread!

Well, the downside is you are fired as GM of the Bears. You did a bang up job this week.

The upside is I saved you a cardboard box from our last shipment of copy machine paper.

With the 100th pick in the 2020 RCF NFL COVID Mock Draft..

The New England Patriots select...

Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia

jake-fromm-georgia-beats-florida.jpg

Fromm, who finished his UGA career with a 36-7 record, eliminates things quickly to work from read-one to read-two to read-three and understands the “why” and “where” with his progressions, which will endear him to NFL coaches. The Georgia offense protected him with the run game and play-calling, but he shows the ability to anticipate and throw receivers open, projecting best to a pro offense with west-coast principles. Overall, Fromm is a challenging evaluation because he won’t be for everyone with his lack of ideal physical traits (arm, size, athleticism), but he is above average in the two most important categories at the position: accuracy and mental processing, projecting as an NFL starter in the right scheme.

Patriots through 3 rounds:
23. AJ Epenesa, DE, Iowa
87. New England - Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB, Appalachian State
100. New England* - Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia

@CosmoKramer and the Seattle Seahawks are on the clock

With the 101st pick of the 2020 RCF Mock Draft the Seattle Seahawks select...

Lynn Bowden, WR, Kentucky

bowden.jpe

HtWt: 5'11'' - 204 lbs.
College: Kentucky

My Take:

Didn't realize we'd make it this far, but the Seattle Seahawks add a versatile offensive playmaker for Russell Wilson to use. Bowden is still raw as a receiver but he's dynamic with the ball in his hands and can generate YAC with his physical playing style.

PLAYER BIO:
Bowden was asked to start the final eight games of his junior season at quarterback, and it helped the team achieve bowl eligibility. His versatility earned him the Paul Hornung Award as the nation's most outstanding all-purpose player, as well as first-team Associated Press All-American all-purpose recognition. Bowden rushed for 1,468 yards (185 carries, 7.9 per) and 13 touchdowns while also leading the Wildcats in receiving (30-348-11.6, one TD in five starts to begin the year) and contributing as a returner (4-53-13.2 on punts, 9-220-24.4 on kickoffs) to finish in the top five nationally in all-purpose yards. He apologized for his role in a pre-game skirmish with Virginia Tech players prior to the 2019 Belk Bowl. Bowden was a second-team All-SEC pick as an all-purpose performer in 2018, leading the team in receiving (67-745-11.1, five TDs), starring as a returner (25-539-21.6 kickoff returns; 5-146-29.9, two punt returns for TDs -- tied for first nationally) and starting 12 of 13 games played. The former Ohio Division II Offensive Player of the Year from Youngstown (2,277 rushing yards, 1,366 passing yards as a senior) and top 100 overall recruit nationally made the SEC All-Freshman squad for his work on offense (17-210-12.4 receiving) and special teams (37-689-23.5 kick returns) in 13 games in 2017. Bowden has a son, Lynn III.

OVERVIEW:
In a rare twist, Bowden is both versatile and a little bit limited. He might require a plan to maximize his value. While he's a slot receiver by position, creative play-callers can use him as a zone-read quarterback and as a gadget receiver for jet sweeps and a variety of short catch-and-run screens. He's not overly sudden or explosive and some teams may want him to prove he can be more than a glorified running back. He's instinctive, highly competitive and makes big plays. His development as a receiver was slowed due to his move to quarterback in 2019, but his return talent and versatility gives him a chance to contribute immediately as he waits to become a starting slot.

STRENGTHS:
  • Well-built with above-average play strength
  • Highly competitive
  • Creative play-callers will love his versatility
  • Has zone read, running back and jet sweep value
  • Runs with excellent vision and toughness
  • Slippery but strong with ball in his hands
  • Very difficult for first tackler to get him down cleanly
  • Has some vertical value from the slot
  • Quick catch-and-tuck to get upfield after catch
  • Hard to jar ball loose from him at catch-point
  • Fearless, efficient and effective as kick returner
WEAKNESSES:
  • Needs room to operate on catch-and-run throws
  • Feet lack explosiveness in short spaces
  • Carries ball loosely and is prone to fumble
  • One-speed route-runner
  • Isn't going to be a big separator from break points
  • Route-running is a little dull and unconvincing
  • Needs to prove value beyond line of scrimmage
  • Unnatural catching kickoffs and punts
DRAFT PROJECTION:
Rounds 3

NFL COMPARISON:
Randall Cobb

@sportscoach an the Pittsburgh Steelers are on the clock

@sportscoach contacted me from work, and he wants offensive lineman with some positional flexibility:

Tyler "Bad Ass" Biadasz, OL, Wisconsin
Height 6'4
Weight 314

From NFL.com

Overview

Solid but unspectacular center prospect who has been a consistent performer during Jonathan Taylor's rushing reign in the Big Ten. He's smart, well-versed in every blocking scheme and plays with efficient, inside hands that possess impressive grip strength. He plays under control and usually hits his landmarks, but he has issues winning when matched against power. Pass protection could be a concern, as NFL sub-rushers will feast on his lunging and average lateral quickness. Biadasz's skill level has been developed, so he could become an early starter with limited upside.

While he is projected to be a center, he has played every position along the line for perhaps the best offensive line programs in the country. @sportscoach can expand from there.

He's going to be a great floating lineman until he finds his landing spot at G or C for someone.

With the 103rd pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select....

Reggie Robinson III, Defensive Back, University of Tulsa

Robinson_Reggie_19_OSU__9743.jpg

Why:
The Eagles are re-making a battered secondary this off-season with the additions of Darius Slay and Nickell Robey-Coleman, and re-signing of Jalen Mills. Despite the additions, the future of the Eagle's secondary still has several questions - will Mills and Robey-Coleman re-sign next year? Can Avonte Maddox hold down the CB2 spot? Can Cre'Vonn LeBlanc be reliable long-term option? Whatever the answers are, turnover is likely at the position, so the time is now to invest in and develop young talent.

Reggie Robinson II, a safety/cornerback from Tulsa, has the mentality, physical tools, and versatility to develop into a solid pro. Robinson will need to improve his technique, but he has demonstrated true ability in man, press and zone coverages. He plays aggressively, and has playmaking abilities demonstrated by his four interceptions and 13 pass breakups in his senior year. After impressing in Senior Bowl one-on-one drills and good testing at the combine (top-10 in 40, 3-cone, and 20-yard shuffle), Robinson has been steadily rising on draft boards.

At 6'1 and 205 pounds, he is one of the bigger corners in the draft, and will have an ideal profile to both safety and cornerback for the Eagles. Robinson is likely a special teams/depth player in his first year, but should be able to develop into a serviceable starter under the leadership of Schwartz and Eagle's veterans.

Strengths:
  • Has size and strength of an NFL cornerback
  • Productive ball magnet this season
  • Able to shade and constrict landing area on deep sideline throws
  • Plays to his length when allowed to zone up
  • Finds ways into catch space
  • Modest instincts when playing with eyes on the quarterback
  • Big striker for a cornerback
Weaknesses:
  • Tight hips bring slow flips from press
  • Struggles to mirror and match the release
  • Poor balance in matching and phasing routes
  • Unable to make up ground when he gets behind
  • Carries prolonged hitch to plant and drive down on throws
  • Needs more aggression attacking blocks
  • Staying in phase with routes is a major issue
@jking948 - LA is on the clock!
