Open Discussion (Cavs + related issues)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Still have a 4.8 TPE we can use if necessary. More likely that we save that for the summer and sign a buyout player or someone like Lance/Chalmers/Cole

I forgot about that one so letting this one expires makes sense.

I think cavs have an idea the buyout market will be good this year

I think if we trade it should be for a big who plays defense. I'd really like to see them let all the trade exceptions expire.

Perfect world is we find a big who we can trade for to get McRae off the roster. Honestly I think his spot is a complete waste. I can't believe the cavs let his money get guaranteed. He is complete garbage.

Then we look for playmaker among the buyouts.

What vibe do you guys get from them letting this expire or did you guys see it coming?

Kinda saw it coming.

There's not a lot of players making 4.4 million or less, that another team would be willing to simple give away for free.

Teams probably wanted Osman or a 2021 pick, and I don't blame the Cavs for saying no.

Without those assets, you're looking at teams who simply want to dump money/contracts. So you're only dealing with a couple of teams, and we're only looking for a few specific types of players.

Alex Ajinca made sense, C, fits into the exception, NO would probably give him away because he has multiple years left on his deal and he never plays and now they even have less time for him to play.

But adding Alex Ajinca would cost the Cavs like 20+ million dollars and we'd be on the hook beyond this year. He's just not really that good.

The Cavs are better off scouring the FA/buy-out market, and only costing them a couple million dollars.

I don't see the other exception being used before the deadline unless something materializes between other teams and the Cavs slip in as a third team.

I honestly am not even sure the Cavs make another trade before the deadline. We struck early and struck gold with Korver. That '19 pick (after the portland pick swap made it possible) was basically our primary bullet for this season, because I really do think the plan is to keep Osman unless something too good to pass on comes about.

Not surprised, as I expected. Trade unlikely by Thursday due to lack of assets. Carmelo pretty much a non-issue, other than going through the motions to appease LeBron. I believe it's waiver wire or bust, although many teams still in contention and may not want to let a player go soon. I believe the key deadline for Cavs is not Thursday's trade deadline, but the March 1 deadline for players to be waived and remain eligible to play for another playoff team.

I'm so glad we got Korver when we did.

It's made this week more likely to be anti-climactic for us, but we've already had a month to integrate out new guy(and he's kicking ass), plus I think Atlanta would have probably kept him if they had until now to think about it. Plus it was nice to basically not be bidding against any other teams unlike now when everyone is talking to everyone a lot about all the players available.

Some of the best deals are the one you never make. Glad the Cavs didn't force one.

I think the Cavs have a plan. I remember when James got together with Wade and Bosch while LeBron was still under contract and Stern said nothing was wrong with that. Thus, I believe players talk and the Cavs have a good idea who would be willing to take a buyout to join the team and whether the players' current team is receptive to a buyout. I don't believe these things happen by chance.

Regarding the buyout market...I've hated Bogut but I'm willing to love him. Also there are likely to be some pretty good other candidates as well. Agree we have to part with McRae. I like ths guy, but he's just not going to be a reliable contributor, especially if you can get an upgrade.

On top of this, the trade market always creates a couple of buy-out situations that were not previously on the radar.

Like due to the Sac/Pelicans deal, Tyreke Evans is at least a possibility(Nothing Vlade says publicly matters), Matt Barnes is being waived, and the Pelicans have agreed to trade Terrance Jones, but if hey can't get a deal for him, I wonder if they will honor his request to play elsewhere and potentially buy him out? It's at least possible. Tyreke and Barnes would be two of the best players on the free agent market instantaneously as well. So, with more trades to come, there are definitely more potentially surprise buy-outs to come. March 1st is the true transaction deadline the Cavs have to watch for. Because we are obviously one of the top choices for anyone who gets bought out, so we will basically get our pick of the litter(unless a little bitch like Joe Johnson gets bought out again)

So are we allowed to sign Jared Cunningham now? I liked him last year. Wouldn't be a terrible pickup. Rather have him than farmar.

Wow. I missed that.

Well that will show me for sticking up for the Kings.

FWIW I still think the Kings should have moved on from Cousins. Now with that knowledge they obviously should have waited to move him. But I really would have a hard time committing to Cousins as the franchise player that you build your whole team around. With the Pelicans it's different because he is certainly second fiddle to Davis.

I don't think I can justify moving on from Cousins at such a low price. Sign him and trade him later. You telling me the Buddy Hield, possible but not probable lottery pick, caliber of offer won't still be around?

Part of what drove his value down is the apparent availability of Jimmy Butler and Paul George. That passes, he gets signed long term by the kings, and there's no way his value doesn't increase. THEN you trade him.

Exactly what I was thinking, it's honestly kinda sad trades like this actually happen. But nothing is worse than the Boston-Brooklynn trade that will never be topped!

Honestly guys, the more I think about possible trade scenarios the more I realize how much I like this team and don't want to break it up. I feel they all serve a role and play it well when healthy and meshing which we really haven't seen much of this year and somehow after all the injuries and games took off for rest I think we're only 8 games behind the Golden Girls who are playing every single game like it's their last!

With that being said I'm only okay with a trade involving some of our rotation players if it brings back a Jimmy Butler or PG13, but I know that's highly unrealistic!

I hope we don't trade Shump for some scrubs who won't do anything come playoff time. I feel like some of you are highly undervaluing Shump!
