Ive played basketball for a longggggggg time and watched for just as long.

But one thing I have never got about the NBA is this..

When you call a TO after a made basket, you get the ball at half court.

So exactly what is the purpose of when a team is making a run and the coach wants a timeout, they have the PG dribble all the way to the other side of the court to your offensive side to call a TO to get the ball at half when if you call a TO after a basket, you get it at the same spot?

Is it not the same thing? I was just watching an NBA classic game and it hit as odd. It happens all the time and it seems like a waste of 5 or so seconds to get the ball to the other side.
