Peyton Hillis is Jason Bourne

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Peyton Hillis

I'm a long time die-hard Brown's fan.

If they are fucking with Hillis just for contractual matters, then I am done with them.

They need to clarify this because I'm pissed off now. Shurmur needs to be fired if there is no good reason form this.

Re: Peyton Hillis

Man Jigo was right. Only in Cleveland do we get a fan favorite who has the best rb season sine we got back than want to trade him away the next year. Yes, lets go with Hardesty and Armon Smith as our backs.

Over reaction. It's what we do.

Re: Peyton Hillis

For a team so lacking in talent, some of you folks sure do seem in a hurry to trade away the talent we stumbled upon for the price of one Brady Quinn.... unbelievable.

My favorite was the guy who said that defenders were targeting Hillis to cause fumbles. Defenses target everyone to cause fumbles. Nevermind that Hillis has a smashmouth brand of running that is high contact (making him vulnerable to drops), because players are trying to poke the ball out (not avoid getting run the hell over/make the tackle).

This guy wasn't finished though, we can feel safe in resigning him if and ONLY IF he rushes the ball to the tune of 1800 yds and 20 TDs (better not be any more fumbles though!). And people thanked this post??? All hope may be lost. This Browns section of this board is borderline unreadable, and that post was the cherry on top.

My point is simply that excessive fumbling can only be tolerated for ELITE running backs. I did not say he needs to run for the indicated yardage in order to re-sign him, I said he needs HOLD ON TO THE DAMN FOOTBALL in order to re-sign him.

With Dickerson, Dorsett, Payton, you tolerate some fumbling. Those players are elite, Hillis is not. Hillis needs to maintain possession of the football. The Browns are right to NOT OVERPAY. If they can get him for the price they think is fair, then do it. If Hillis is asking too much, don't. That way, the team is not saddled with dead money on the cap when they are [hopefully some day soon] ready to compete, they have spend it on the key FA or draftee re-signing that get them over the top.

The business end is the most important part, and it is good to see CLE looking after it. A sure way to continued losing is to worry about fan's emotional sentiment and make losing decisions to placate them. Good PR yes, but it can't be about whether he our type of blue collar guy, its whether the player gets the job done when the game is on the line.

Excessive fumbling will not get it done!

Hillis is more important than the organization?

Move on dude.

Re: Peyton Hillis

I think this issue is being overblown.

Re: Peyton Hillis

Fix it Hillis; then get paid.

"It's something that they keyed on," said Hillis. "It didn't work out. And the ball popped up, no excuses. [The three fumbles] are totally on my shoulders and I messed up and I take full responsibility."

Byrd, who also forced Hillis' second fumble, said he baited Hillis into the hurdle.

"We saw on film that the times he jumps tend to be after you stutter and break down like you're going to chop down on him," said Byrd. "So as I came up on him and stuttered, I could tell he was slowing himself down to get ready to jump. That gave me an opportunity to make a play. I hit him high, and all of a sudden the ball came out."

Hillis twice fumbled during a third-quarter drive, but recovered the first one and Lawrence Vickers fell on the second. Hillis is tied for the league lead with five lost fumbles and has a total of eight.

Re: Peyton Hillis

We will not be trading Peyton Hillis anytime soon. His next contract will be signed soon.

I don't believe for one second Shurmur limited Hillis's number of plays because of contract concerns, nor I do believe he was punishing Hillis for anything. I do believe Shurmur is inexperienced and basically had a very bad game yesterday in many ways. It's clear he needs to get a handle about things going on.

I also don't think teammates really said what the reporter says they said. Maybe one player said something stupid to the reporter to maybe seem important or something, but I don't believe there is a rift among players and Hillis at all. If anything, the players are on the side of their stud teammate.

This was addressed and put to bed hours ago. You'd think that a die-hard fan would've paid attention to the press conference.

Re: Peyton Hillis

From an article about said conference, Hillis supposedly loss 10 to 12 Lbs just from having Strep.

Hillis lost 10-12 pounds because of the illness, so it's entirely plausible that he didn't feel strong enough to play in Week 3. And as of late last week, he still hadn't regained all of the weight, which may have contributed to his reduced role against the Titans.

So while I was as pissed as any that he didn't get more touches it very well could have been because he's still getting back into it.

We are going to extend his contract and he's going to come back full force.

Re: Peyton Hillis

This bye-week is the best thing to happen to us at this point. Haden hurt, Hillis needs to recover, McCoy should watch tapes and Shurmur needs to fucking get his head out of his ass.

This^ As people forget how nasty strep can be. I for some reason can only carry strep and not get It according to a few doctors??? Anyways I seen people who did have It and one person lost 15 Lbs and It took him A month to recover. So If the strep story Is true... Hills will be fine come next game.

It's a business. If Hillis isn't happy here, than he should leave. He isn't going to get the money he wants anywhere else. You can talk about his numbers all you want. He is still viewed around the league as a power runner/gifted pass catcher that lacks breakaway speed and fumbles the ball like crazy. If it weren't for the Browns, Hillis wouldn't even be in the position to be looking for such a nice contract. Only problem is this is a new system, new coach, and we have GM that traded multiple picks to get Hardesty. Im not saying Hillis should suck it up and sign for whatever the Browns offer him. But the Browns shouldn't be held hostage by Hillis and whatever his agent might be asking for. And lets not write Hardesty off yet. He had a tough game, but he has more upside than Hillis does imo. Just because not everyone feels bad for Hillis, doesn't make them any less of a fan. They still watch the same shitty football team you do every Sunday.

Re: Peyton Hillis

There was a report on ESPN yesterday that some Browns players questioned Hillis about him not playing last week. Wonder if he didn't play because of the lock out. If he is causing trouble in the locker room would you trade him right now? Were you not surprised when he didn't play last week even though he was at all of the meetings on the day before last weeks game? If that espn report is accurate and his teammates are doubting his will to play that is not good for the locker room.

So would you trade him right now? I definately don't want to trade him. I wonder what the value of Hillis would be. Would you trade him for a decent receiver or even a 2nd round pick?

Sort of funny he was sitting at the bar at Chillis in North Olmsted on Septemeber 22, then the next day he's sick? I thought oh dude had a hangover and missed practice, but then he missed the game too. Something seems off.

I think you're overreacting. Nobody is saying to get attached to the guy. I don't get attached to any Cleveland player either, in the least bit.. but because some rumor got started, everybody's ready to jump down Hillis's throat about it. Calm down.

Bull shit, we had people in the thread about the LeBron Witness ad saying to put Hillis up there just about a year ago.

Every player in the NFL has their negative attributes. Hillis's rushing style does cause him to fumble more than the average RB, but more often than not, he gets a solid run in & puts it all on the line. He's a bruiser & bruisers get hurt & fumble more than your typical RB would. That's how it is, plain & simple.

That's great, but IMHO we need Hardesty as well. He's a guy that could break it in the open field. It would be nice if we had them in a two back set and Marv Albert announcing every game.

All we're saying is that his style of play & his toughness & work ethic fit right in with the city. He's a blue collar tough guy who goes balls out on every run. This isn't some flashy Terrell Owens/Randy Moss type guy we're talking about here.

He doesn't have the work ethic. The cat was at Chillis in North Olmsted drinking at the bar the night before he got "strep". Have you seen what the guy wears?

No, that doesn't mean he's not lying and/or won't leave for more $, but at the same time, Cleveland's past history with guys leaving is really starting to effect how some view the players we currently do have & it's starting to effect how much some enjoy just watching the team.

I'm not saying to trust the guy or to get attached to him, just enjoy him trucking & leapfrogging defenders while you still can.
