I'll be finished with school in 7+ months.
For those of you who don't know, I attend The Cleveland Institute of Medical Massage. And the job market in Cleveland is not that great for massage therapists. I've done job searches in the Cleveland area and found only 2.

I want my own business (eventually). And I'm gearing it towards organic, i.e creams, oils, etc. And the job market is huge in Cali. And it's a huge step for me. So I was wondering if anyone here as any advice or opinions. I do plan on going to Cali next summer to see if it's a real possibilty.

I know Pip will know a thing or two about this.

Sure thing, what would you like to know ??

I'm unfamiliar with your line of work, so I don't know if I can help you with any info on what might be a hot spot for this area of work...

I'm moving back to California as well within a year... And if I'm not mistaken James is moving out there ?? (I mistakenly deleted that PM, James)

I really want out of Ohio. It'll be cool to visit once in awhile, but career wise for me, it's looking not that great. I'm not too picky about the areas in Cali; just can't be anywhere to expensive. I looked at some area of real estate and I found a mobile home for $169,000.

I'm thinking closer to the Sacramento area, but Cali is so freakin huge, I don't know where to begin.

Perhaps Modesto, San Jose or something along those lines.. Maybe even Fresno if you're feeling a little wild :chuckles:

Nonetheless, you should definitely be able to find a job out that way in your field, or at least find something that can bridge you over and transition you into your line of work where you can still live comfortably...

I wanna live on Pip's couch.
That's where I've been living since Thursday... At least that's where she placed my pillow...

I'm no one to give financial advice, but wine country is blowing up. You could possibly look into employment at the spas around Yountville, Sonoma, Napa, and Calistoga for employment... then find an apartment/sublet on craigslist within driving distance.

I was in wine country all weekend, and trust me, people throw money around like its Vegas out there... and they spend money right in your wheelhouse of expertise.

Feel free to PM me if you need to bounce some ideas... I'm in S.F. if you didn't know.

I live in phoenix, with the amount of resorts out here, phoenix is a great place to find work for massage theropists and much cheaper to live than cali. Stay away from mobile homes, they are very difficult to finance.

Houston is pretty resession proof since the oil scare in the 80's. My wife and I doubled our salaries moving from Mentor Ohio moving here in March. The cost of living is cheaper than Ohio as well. August is like Ohio's Feb, it is the one month no one really wants to get outside.
The food and people are great, good luck with what ever you decide.

Any idea how much day care costs in California? Is there a price difference you think?

Does this mean our fearless leader is leaving too? :(

Good luck on the move Nicky. I have some experience as a client at CIMM. They do great work there and it is cheap.

depends on where in cali, how long you need the day care, etc. You can find private day care for about $600 a month, but if you want proffesional day care you are looking at 1k per a kid for full time.

As a loan officer, i double this sentiment. I had to stack loans for a guy to get one about two months ago. Next to impossible to get a loan on these things.

Yeah, we don't get paid at all. We have to do 40 clinicals and get zero. But when I graduate, I'm charging alot more because I'm planning on using organic products only.

I too am a loan officer, interesting times with the gse (goverment sponsered entities) being taken over by the government esentially turning a fannie and freddie mortgage backed security into a govermental bond. It needed to happen, and rates should reflect the new found security in the product. That being said this is a conversation that I am sure will bore anyone reading so I will end it, lol.
