If Danny Ferry was watching the same games as I have I doubt he's on the phone looking to shop Drew Gooden. Its clear that Marshall doesn't have the energy or footspeed to start and Anderson has months of rust to shake off.

We have little else on the roster that many teams covet and we would be willing to part with. So with all that in mind here are a couple of candidates to bring in for stop gap measures until Hughes gets back.

Fred Hoiberg - The "Mayor" was recently cleared to play ball after having an aneurysm in his aortic root surgically repaired. He surely will be out of shape, rusty and scared but even if he had his leg amputated the guy could still shoot and defend better then anybody we have on our roster.

Latrell Sprewell - Its easier to list what I have eaten the past week then it would be to list everything this knucklehead has done to destroy his career. That being said, if the veterans minimum would be enough to feed his family I'd take a shot. He is an upgrade in every way at the shooting guard spot.

Casey Jacobsen - Can shoot the 3 and defend slower 2's in the league. I'm not sure why he's not on an NBA roster. He's young and showed plenty of promise. Maybe he has signed and I missed it?

Rodney Buford - As a starter with the nets last year he averaged 12.5 points and 5 rebounds (17 games). Coming off the bench he scorched the Cavs a few times.

The market for SG is extremly thin. The obvious choice would be Latrell, and I doubt he will accept the vet min.

I think the only way we can nab him is if we trade a player for a draft pick. Shouldn't that free us some space to sign him for decent money?

I dont get why Spreewell isn't here...or somebody.

I mean Spree is proven, and he is greedy but the dude plays hard when he has something to prove and he has something to prove.

He plays good D, has plenty of experience. He should be in here..

Sprewell still wants big money and is not going to settle for the veteran minimum which is all the Cavs can give him. I wouldn't give him a long term deal and I wouldn't try to work out a sign and trade for him.

Sprewell isn't the same player he used to be. He's lost much of the quickness and athleticism he had which made him so effective. Teams haven't exactly beaten down his door to try to sign him. That should tell everyone a lot. He could contribute but I can't see it as a possibility and it probably isn't a good long term choice.

Even with things not looking great right now, I'd stay with what the Cavs have than bring in any of what's available now. Hoiberg probably won't play this year and will go to Minn. if he does. The others are really no better than what the Cavs have.

Other teams not talking to him doesnt alarm me...there are a lot of players that teams dont talk to.

He wants money, true..but he isnt going to get it. He is only hurting his stock by sitting out, coming here for a year working his value back up is the best thing for everybody involved, win win situation..

Its disgusting seeing Damon Jones play..we need somebody that actually knows how to handle theirs.

Where are the supposed "upgrades at sg" that i thought this thread would be about?

None of the players listed represent upgrades over our current personnel.

Luke would put up better numbers than those guys if brown would start him and give him 30+ minutes a night like he does with Jones.

I think the best way to upgrade the bench is through a trade. Because right now our bench is hurting us big time. It is the real weak part of our team.

But the problem is, we dont have much to offer. I think the best way to go is to sign George Lynch, to help out on the defensive end.

George Lynch isn't too bad an idea when Hamiltons 10 days expire. Ira is apparently struggling with his foot still, so place him on the inactive list. This is not really what you call a major upgrade, but it gives us a tough defender who can hit with a tad more regularity then Newble. This would push LeBron to playing more at the two guard.

Lebron would be a major upgrade at two guard, but the cav's biggest weakness is in the front court. we need Lebron playing small forward and power forward and center. the only was that we stayed close versus teams early in the year is that Lebron did not have to guard the other team's best scorer. once hughes went down that put Lebron on kobe. lookout. before kobe it was t-mack. look out. we want Lebron guarding slow forwards not sleek guards.

Newbs was guarding Kobe, not Lebron. Bron had him for about 5 min the entire game.
