for that I will agree, the Senate has been ineffectual as well.
but the secretary of the Treasury is under the president, more oversight was needed long ago over the financial sector in regards to banking and the real estate industry which have been a mess.
It's not up to the Secretary of Treasury to dictate free enterprise policy. The position is only responsible for securing that the amount of representative money that is released into the public can be backed by the physical reserves and to control the revenue of the federal government.
i am also not to happy gas has jumped from 2.50 a gallon to 4.50 now back to 2.50, while Exon reports records profits while singing the blues they have no money to put back into infrastructure
Again, it is not the US government's responsibility to dictate free enterprise. Should they investigate that there may have been some price gouging? Sure. But it won't prove anything, unless there was collusion by all the oil companies to drive up prices, and fall under the rules of a monopoly. It is a basic economic principle that, as demand increases, supply decreases, prices will go up. Does it make me happy? No. Is it their right to do so. Yes. You would do the same, or your business would fail.
safeguards need to be in place to avoid the rollercoaster ride our economy is on ,especially if its a function of greed and fiscal irresponsibility
if any thing thee last fe years has shewn us people have found inventive and sleazy ways of making a buck off their fellow man
There are safeguards in place. They are there to protect people's rights. Rights to make your own choices. Rights of the business owners to do business.
Consumers didn't have to accept the loan that was beyond their means. They could have gone elsewhere. Lenders didn't have to offer to very risky opportunities. They chose to do so. The point is that it was their choice. The fallout is that banks thought they could be predatory and make lots of money; instead it led to defaulted loans and them losing their asses. The borrowers, likewise, thought they could get something for nothing, and, it too, bit them. You reap what you sow.
The fundamentals of this country were based on the right to make a choice. That is why we go to great lengths to dispel monopolies (major sports aside, for some reason). You don't have to buy gas. You could walk, ride a bike, or use mass transit. There are alternatives.
As for the sleaziness, corruption and whatnot...that's been going on from ma's first independent thought. I'm not saying that it's right. Man has found inventive and sleazy ways to get itself to the top from day 1...it's part of evolution. Catholicism became a world power by using sleazy tactics. Not just a religious power...a world power. Islamic extremists are attempting to do the same. Israel is just trying to survive, but they do so by feeling that they are entitled to a piece of land that others also call home. The dawn of man brought about the thought of wanting to be superior...and by using whatever means are necessary to get there.
Some use money. Some use shrewd words. Some use brute force. It doesn't change the fact that the gentlemen running for leadership of this country do so not just because they want to help make fellow man equals; they do so because they want to hold the highest post in the world's greatest power. And they want to keep it that way.
As much as Obama says he wants to create a utopian playing field, that field is just for those below the positions of power. He has the power. I don't. You don't. Max does not. Damage does not. What Obama says holds more power than what any of us here will say. That's because he has the power. True equality is a myth. It goes against the basic instincts of man (alpha male) and nature (survival of the fittest). I doesn't exist anywhere in the animal kingdom on this planet. It is an ideal that we want to believe, but is impossible to achieve. True communism/Marxism was the closest ideology to come to this, but was proven not to work, as it was completely unattainable...man's basic instincts took over. Man has a hierarchy that it depends on and created to facilitate some sort of order.
The hope is that those who are in the upper levels will pull the lower levels up to them. The reality is that we accept those leaders as a means to survive as long as possible.
