Racist Refs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think it's bogus, anything to rehash a racial debate though..

Someone needs to tell the refs that Sasha is white - they are always whistling him for something.

But seriously, this "study" is garbage.

It says Black Officials also call more fouls on whites than blacks but of course the ESPN Hyperlink is... Report: White refs call more fouls on black players :thumbdown

But the key finding was in regard to foul calls, saying "black players receive around 0.12-0.20 more fouls per 48 minutes played [an increase of 2½-4½ percent] when the number of white referees officiating a game increases from zero to three."
Geeze, that doesn't even qualify as significant. Darius Songaila evened it back out in Game 1 when he fouled out in 17 mins :chuckles:

It is interesting that the only players kicked out of the Mavs-Warriors games were black, Jackson & Richardson. Bruce Jenkins, who's been writing about the NBA for 30 years, says all these players are doing is making sarcastic remarks. Refs are pretty frigging thin-skinned if that's all it takes to kick a guy out.

Not sure what's going on, if it's racism or just Dallas favoritism. Every year the refs have way too much to say about the outcome of playoff games.

You should see how much respect Tim Duncan is getting. :D

What about the possibility that black players just objectively foul more than whites?

It was Jackson (twice) and Baron Davis who got ejected. And both of them were for clapping after the refs made the call (Davis in Game 2 and Jackson in Game 5). It seems to me that the problem is many of these refs think the fans came to see them and not the players. I don't think it has anything to do with race in these cases, just refs acting on emotion and ego.

Stern needs to get a handle on these guys. He did a good job with Crawford, but only because Timmy was involved. Getting ejected for laughing or clapping is ludicrous.

I don't think you can conclude that the refs are racist. Maybe just dumb. There was no reason for Stephen Jackson to get thrown out of the game last night. Suspend that ref just like Crawford was suspended. The refs need to get it through their thick skulls that fans come to watch the players play, not the refs ref.

You'd think Biedrins would get tossed for the terrible form on his freethrows..

I just wanna know since when clapping constitutes as an automatic 2 technicals and why?

Is it possible that black players foul more demonstrably than white players, on the average. Keep in mind that "average white player" encompasses the Kyle Korvers and Wally Szezrbiaks of the world. Other than a few Euros, the substantial majority of the white NBA lacks relative athleticism. They foul, but its generally holds and blocks and bumps on the arm. The Kaponos of the world do few things explosively, including fouling.

Let's put this another way that might not sound as racist. Let's conduct a new study to chart traveling violations. My guess is that traveling is called on white players MORE often than on blacks.

Why? Because, in general, white people look less fluid when they play ball. Here, I'm specifically talking about Europeans. Pavs gets called for traveling all the time. So does Z. Peja, back when he had a knee, got called every other time he drove.

As bad color commentators love to point out, you can call traveling on every other play in the NBA. Palming is endemic. Why do white folks always get called for traveling and black players get away with it?

Refs are racist.

This is a pretty flawed study whose conclusions are questionable. It's getting way too much attention.

The NBA is primarly black and the players who get the most playing time are primarily black. I don't think this study was done over a long period either. Just one season where boxscores were looked at.

CDT's hacking azz would get a lot of whistles. CDT's jersey reads "I foul" on the back.

I only had 2 fouls tonight, one offensive foul and one bogus ticky tack foul because the refs were scared of the other team after #22 threw a chair last week

I felt like Sasha out there :thumbdown HATERZ
