I'd give Fury an 8/10. Did very well with setting the right tone, and well acted all around. Shia LeBouf is a douche, but he was really good in this.

The military stuff was mostly on point, although that was a pretty freaking incompetent SS battalion there at the end.

Ok the next review I want so here better belong to InterStellar. Come on people get off your butts tomorrow and head to the theater !!!!

There will be blood 9.5/10

Acting and directing was awesome. Daniel day Lewis is a beast. That kid that played Eli was really good too. Was a tiny bit slow and a little long but if you're into movies you'd appriciate it.

the beauty of this movie is that its like a locomotive.. 60% of the movie is set up and then it just builds steam and gets more and more outrageous. Fucking baller movie

Interstellar is the best movie yet made.

And just to qualify the last statement... if you think TDK is better than Inception then you probably won't agree.

After talking to a few people about my take (and they were surely shocked that I rank it #1 among all films), I think how the movie hits you depends on your values and what you're trying to get out of it.

To be honest, I walked in with mild expectations and walked out blown away. I'm not going to say shit about the film. Also, this is NOT a science movie; it's not Gravity, folks should NOT go in thinking this will be a science lesson -- it's not, and it doesn't try to be.

This movie is more of a spiritual/metaphysical experience, and if depending upon how open you are to something like that I think strongly determines how well you'll take to the movie.

1) If you don't want to be preached to about saving the Earth, well...
2) If you don't want to hear about "the power of Love" then...
3) If you are going to get hung up on things that are not-scientific, err...

But if you just enjoy the story for what it is; something almost like a fable or mythical tale, then the point really gets across.

Absolutely fantastic movie which unseats Inception (and before that American Beauty) as my favorite of all time.

EDIT: Lastly Chris Nolan is surely this generation's greatest film director.

EDIT2: Someone just asked me about 2001, and yes, this movie is more or less a reboot of 2001: A Space Odyssey and it does not attempt to hide that fact. It blends that with a bit of 1979 classic, Black Hole (but not too much).

yea, watching it at the drivein tomorrow

for a minute, i thought it was arnofsky but he's been shit for awhile. Fincher is good, but I don't like his projects lately. Nolan is the best.

Funny you mention Aronfsky. The movie reminds me of The Fountain. No, it's definitely not as fantasy-oriented as that, nor does it attempt to be as artistic; but the message about love transcending life itself is very similar.

The formula for Intersteller is 2001: A Space Odyssey in almost all of it's 'far-out' scenes. And again, Nolan is in no way trying to hide that fact - it's a 2001 remake in almost all respects.

Watched some of Slingblade tonight. I was beat and fell asleep a little over halfway through. Billy bob thorton was killing it. Character is hard not to like. So far 8.8/10

Edit- such a good fucking movie. Cried at the end a couple times. At least a 9

A Walk Among the Tombstones

Definitely not what I expected, which was another Taken where Liam Neeson tears his way through hundreds of minorities in route to vengeance. This is a slower, darker film that is a detective thriller rather than an action movie. Very well done, though. I started it around 2:00 AM last night planning to watch half of it and finish it this morning and ended up staying up until 4:00 AM to finish it. That's the mark of a compelling film. Overall, enjoyable (although maybe that's the wrong word for a movie as dark as this one) and worth the watch. 8/10

I wanted to see this in theaters but didn't. Will have to watch online now. Thanks for the reminder.

Neighbors - 6.5/10

As a comedy movie it did have moments, It was a light comedy - You will laugh when you watch this but you are not going to watch this movie twice. The performance of Efron and Dave Franco was really good. The airbag scenes which they showed in the trailer was really funny. And as with most Seth Rogen movies, there was some gross-out comedy stuff too.

I saw Neighbors in the theater and would also give it a rating in the 6 range. It had some funny moments but some of the attempts failed. I didn't care for the actress who played Seth Rogen's wife much either.

Into the Storm - I liked this movie better when it was called Twister. Special effects are fun, though. If you want to see Thorin Oakenshield fight tornadoes, this is your flick. I gave less than a fuck about the plot or any of the characters (except Mike from Veep, but only because he was Mike from Veep), but the visuals were pretty. Not sure why this was "found footage" though. Didn't really seem to add anything to the movie other than lots of annoying shaky cam shots.

I'll give it bonus points because there's a black tornado hunter and he doesn't die first.

Hercules

5.5/10

The Rock looks like he's made of equal parts muscle and leather, and acts accordingly. it had an interesting spin on the Hercules mythos and to be fair there are some very good actors in the movie as well. problem is, that the Hercules myth is so over the top and insane that when you try to give it a more realistic touch a lot of the wow-factor disappears, especially when the trailers pushed for a more fantastic and supernatural feel. I sat down expecting to watch 300 and what I ended up watching was more along the lines of Book Of Eli with loincloths and clubs.

In the end, the most awesinspiring part of the movie was The Rocks arms. disappointing

I'm not about to go thru this whole thread to see if anyone has watched, but I saw A Most Wanted Man last night. Phillip Seymour Hoffman's last starring role (I think).

It was a really thought-provoking movie with very good and calculated dialogue. That is one of my most desired characteristics in movies; I like to think. It's wild how talented and believable Hoffman was.. His character was incredibly cerebral and high-stress and he kept me emotionally invested throughout. The ending fell short for closure, but I'm beyond the desire for a happy ending... It was emotionally defeating for the viewer and character, but I think that's how they wanted the viewer to feel. I must say, though, I don't like how Americans are constantly portrayed as the antagonist, in a way, by non-American writers..

8/10
